New York Population Loss Is Linked to Cost of Housing
New York Times ^ | April 20, 2006 | Sam Roberts

The 1990's exodus to other states from California and from the Northeast appears to have eased since 2000, but not in metropolitan New York, a Census Bureau analysis says.

The Midwest is still losing residents, and the West is gaining. The South remains a magnet for migrants, but the influx of new residents has declined steeply outside the South Atlantic region.

The analysis, which is being released today, looked only at people moving from one place to another in the United States and did not take into account people arriving from other countries.

I believe it. I see more and more out of state plates from some of these states noted in the article down here looking for houses in my neighborhood.

I'm sure you do. The thing is, if you flew the rebel flag in my neighborhood up here, nobody would bother you at all.....not a soul.

I guess we have.............differences.

If I ever were to move to the south, I would make sure that I'd fly the New York Yankees flag right under the Stars and Stripes........just to p*** off the neighbors.

If your object is to piss off people, the south isn't for you. We can piss right back.

Not me. I don't want to pi$$ off my neighbors. I moved here to get away from NY and NYers. I didn't want to bring it with me. Otherwise, what would be the sense of leaving? The folks here have been absolutely wonderful to me and some have taken me in as family. I'm a lucky guy to have the neighbors I do.

There's talk of a high speed rail line running from Delaware Water Gap (the town) to NYC. If that's built, NE PA will become NYC lite.
