Democrats warn Chavez: Don't bash Bush

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Two of President Bush's staunchest domestic critics leapt to his defense Thursday, a day after one of his fiercest foreign foes called him "the devil" in a scorching speech before the United Nations.

"You don't come into my country; you don't come into my congressional district and you don't condemn my president," Rep. Charles Rangel, D-New York, scolded Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-California, was blunt in her criticism of the Venezuelan leader. "He is an everyday thug," she said. (Watch Rangel rip Chavez -- 1:28 )

Chavez kept up his criticism of Bush during a visit to Harlem on Thursday, calling the U.S. president "a sick man" who is unqualified for the job. Chavez also said he is expanding his heating-oil program to help low-income Americans.

During his speech before the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday, Chavez launched into a caustic verbal attack of Bush that shocked diplomats and observers accustomed to the staid verbiage of international diplomacy. (Full story)

"The devil came here yesterday," Chavez said, referring to Bush, who addressed the world body during its annual meeting Tuesday. "And it smells of sulfur still today."

Chavez accused Bush of having spoken "as if he owned the world" when the U.S. president addressed the world body on Tuesday. (Watch how Chavez's belligerence may backfire -- 3:11)

I hope something like that is in the works. So far I have heard nothing from the Republicans, surely they are aware of the insults to the President and the our Country.

It has nothing to do with throwing the Dims a life preserver. It has only to do with doing what's right and honorable.

And how've you been, Big Guy? Very good, I hope. :-)

Just like the typical union guy, complaining about job outsourcing.

I agree. Let'em sink. :)

Doing very good actually. It was a trying few months this past spring and summer, caring for my grandmother who has alzheimers. I've lived with her since 1991. She provided a roof over my head and home cooked meals and we both shared the cost of bills and I pay rent.

Toward the end of July though, things got virtually impossible that my father (her son), my mother and I decided she needed qualified nursing care, so we put her in a nursing home where she's extremely well-cared for and very happy, despite the fact she don't even remember who I am when I go visit her. Very tough, but I know she's getting the best care possible. It's terrible what something like alzheimers does to a person. This is my first time with first hand experience dealing with it. I'm doing OK though, I got lots of FRiends, and a mother who makes me a meal or two a week. :)

Hello,

They waited for the poll results and it was ugly for the Dems. A friend of ours (Lib) is livid about this, and actually stated that she is sick of people bashing President Bush ~ WOW ~ that was a major moment! Hugo gave us this year's (spanish version) of the Wellstone Funeral/Political Rally.
Life is good....

Glad to be here, MOgirl

Sean Penn may have been the inspiration for Chavez 2 weeks ago...or maybe he got the DNC fax first!

We need a big picture of W with the caption "Support El Diablo - and tell America's enemies to go to hell."

Badge of honor, it is the secret to destroying Orwellian nutcase spin. Laugh at them and accept every label they want to pin on you, preen over it, rub it in their face.

"The democrats love Chavez! In fact, their netroots and blogs are falling in love with him, their digital Stalinism and digital Staliniests finally admits this truth."

Tom Harkin was defending Chavez after the UN speech:

I believe it's a step in the right direction. Like you, I am suspicious of their motives and don't expect them to stand firm.

The Dems are playing politics ..TRhat's obvious..Where was OUR response though .I'd expect some Republicans to go off on the moron dictators..Pretty quiet so far ..Where's our guys on this ?

Well, the Republicans haven't been quiet, but you have to rely on the media to report what they are saying and they don't believe that anything a Republican says is front page news. Here are the few articles I could find

Hypocrites all. They call W Hitler but now, because they know their extremism sounds just like Hugo's and the Iranian thug's rhetoric, well by golly, let us be the one's to call our Prez a drunk, not you aliens, by Allah! Or whatever deity the crossing Chavez believes in.

It's like he's trying to undermine this country by using the weakest people.

Very true...and so transparent even the Dems get it. So we're safe for now. They may say the same things, they've just convinced themselves that they say them in a more sophisticated way.

I also didn't realize that Citgo was a subsidiary of a Venezuela state-owned oil company. I won't be buying Citgo gas anymore.

Under an agreement last winter, Citgo, the Houston-based subsidiary of Venezuela's state-owned oil company, was to sell 8 million gallons of heating oil on the open market and donate what amounts to a 40 percent discount to Maine. It also donated 120,000 gallons of oil to 40 Maine homeless shelters.

''Its like hes trying to undermine this country by using the weakest people.''............In my opinion what the creep is trying to do is to plant seeds! Not that this will happen tomorrow, but he's pandering to the poor people in this country hoping with his hand outs he can win them over and the poor people in this country will rise up and over throw the government and throw the President out of the white house. Kind of what is happening in Mexico ,how the poor people will not accept the fact that the Conservative won the election so they are taking to the streets with their nonsense. ....Or some such garbage. The guy is delusional. And yes of course he is using them!

''They have all said the same and worse.''........Of course they have, and not only are they hypocrites, they are disgusting liars. In their hearts the RATS '' AGREE WITH EVERYTHING'' that, that dictator said! The only reason that Rengal and Pelosi and any of the RATS are trying to distance themselves from Chavez's comments are because an important election is happening in about a month from now. I believe if there was no election happening soon the RATS would be mute.

That's always the way of the left, they aim at the disaffected, disenfranchised and whomever else they find on the margins. And to them they recite their mantra of oppression.
