Art Bell Tribute Live Thread (10 p.m. PST)
Coast To Coast AM ^ | 7/18/2007 | Coast To Coast AM

George Noory plans a tribute to Art Bell on the occasion of Art's latest "retirement." George threatens a "tribute song." If we're lucky, they'll replay Art's encounter with Super Glue -- still one of the best live moments in the history of broadcasting. Please, everyone, chime in with your Art Memories.

You talking about "JC"?

sNoory kicked him off about a year ago.

He was insulting the C2CAM tenure of whatshisname? Mike Siegel?

Don’t know about Crunchyjello!

“JennysCool” comes from my old, hyper-liberal girlfriend, Jenny. We were email-fighting like cats and dogs during the 2000 election, and when it came time to pick an FR name, I naturally wanted to immortalize her on THE Conservative website!

Jenny and I still keep in touch, but I have never revealed this little secret to her! Shhhhhh!

I listened to Art Bell mostly in his ‘heyday’ around 97-99...

I then branched out to shortwave listening at that time.

Some of my favorite shows were the interview with colonel Corso, the man who claimed he was given the job to reverse engineer the Roswell crash recovery technology. He claims aliens were there, and died in a mishap soon after that around 80 years old.

And some of the JFK shows, also the shows after his wife passed away.

Interesting though, he’s discounted as a conspiracy theorist.

Yet, I remember buying and reading his book ‘The Quickening’ back then, and I have the copy in my hands right now thumbing through the pages, written in 1997.

In the book I’m looking at the pages I recalled reading that were shocking and discounted back then. Art has a few pages on the growth of Islamic terrorism, and want to rule the world. He goes over the terrorist acts up to date then, and explains how this will worsen.

He has pages on societal breakdown, and our loss of sovereignty gradually.

Many laughed at him for writing this book, but it appears to be very correct on it’s predictions looking at it 7/18/07.

If you have a copy, look at the terrorism part, if you don’t have one check out the reviews of the book here:

http://www.amazon.com/Quickening-Todays-Trends-Tomorrows-World/dp/1879706717/ref=sr_1_4/102-5713205-1000148?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184820294&sr=1-4

My favorite callins that Art requested was for any govt employee to call in who saw something odd, or were unhappy. I notice none of his replacements do that anymore. Remember the people who said they were calling from Area 51, and sometimes they would get caught by the ‘handlers’when they were on the phone, one guy was screaming.

Then there were times Art would just go off the air, and he said the govt had some kind of jammer that would just take him out, and he couldn't’t do anything about it?

Guess I'll listen to the show awhile....:^)

A hoax ... Just like Roswell! (eerie organ chord here)

I attended the festivities in Roswell on the 50th anniversary of the crash. I know to many old timer locals that believe the crash was real.

There have been lots of revelations lately on Roswell, including the base press officer admitting (in a document he asked to be released after his death), that the crash was real and he wrote a cover story for it. Who knows? It really wouldn’t surprise me. This is one big universe!

1999 was when I discovered him in college. I think he was on 1-5:30. That year was some of the best radio I ever heard. I would actually stay up all night to hear his interviews—he was so good at what he did. I will always remember that time. Good stuff. Cheers, Art.

What you posted I had to smile as it is exactly how I feel.

Only car on the road on the rural highway, over caffeined from the day and I would start looking up in the sky listening to his shows on Aliens.

Fun times.

Art seems to me conservative in a way that ham radio operators are, infact that is what Art is more than a broadcaster, he’s a deeply immersed ham radio operator. If anything I think he's softening up a little towards marginal liberalism

I enjoyed how Curtis Sliwa, another host on WABC 770AM, went after Art Bell as a "looney kazooney from parts unknown" or something like that. Curtis often went off the deep end regarding Art Bell. Maybe George Noory could get some clips of that and add it to his show, or get Curtis himself. Both hosts are/were entertaining to millions, but rarely does one go after another, so for that alone it was interesting radio programming.

Good luck to Art Bell and his family.
