BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) He was probably a redhead, tall and in good shape when he died of an unidentified cause by age 30.
That's according to researchers, who used X-rays and a computerized topography scan to learn more about the 2,300-year-old mummy housed at the Louisiana Art and Science Museum. The release of their findings coincided with the unveiling of a major renovation of the museum's ancient Egypt gallery.
The research also provided answers to questions left unresolved after X-rays done in the 1980s, and more details about man behind the mummy researchers say was found near Thebes, Egypt.
For example, researchers believe he stood between 5-feet-7 inches and 5-feet-8 inches and weighed between 124 and 132 pounds. They have not identified his race.
The mummy's internal organs are intact, which surprised researchers, and X-rays showed the man, while in good shape otherwise, had numerous broken ribs, said Mary Manhein, director of Louisiana State University's Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services lab where some of the tests were done.

His mummy hugged him too hard?
At least they got him in bandages before any further damage could be done.
LOL!
Ya boy, they take a long time to heal.
Mummy dearest..
Thanks for the Ping.
The red-headed part is very interesting, considering the only red haired people in Biblical times are thought to be the Assyrians.
Wasn’t Judas Iscariot a red-head, or is that just a myth?
Maybe he was just a stepchild.
I thought I read/heard a long time ago that Egyptians liked to use henna-dyed hair and wigs as a fashion statement—is this guy a natural redhead? Inquiring minds want to know...
he’ sure ugly but sure buffed...wonder if he roids?
LOL. I believe if he had dyed hair, they would have said so and not even bothered writing this article...don't you think. The red-hair is what makes the mummy unique.
Ramses II was red haired. It was reported that they did some tests on hair from his mummy to determine if the colour was from henna or natural and it was decided he was naturally red haired.
If his pants were lower, we’d know for certain.
The ancient Libyans were believed to be yellow haired and the Egyptians depicted them as such.
The Egyptians were mainly a Mediterranean type race with a large admixture of blacks from Kush, who came into Egypt as slaves and military mercenaries, and Libyans. They also probably included Semitic elements after the Hyksos invasions. Both Libyans and Kushites were great bowmen - an arm in which the early Egyptians were wanting.
