I don’t know. Having lived and worked in that area several times in my life I have to think they mixed in with what are now the Lumbee Indians. Very unique looking people.

Much more likely that they were taken away by local Indian tribes, with whom some of the colonists survived for many years. If you’re seriously interested in the topic, get yourself a copy the book a few years ago by Lee Miller. I found it very persuasive.

Didn't happen. The Spanish archives have been ransacked, and the Spaniards didn't have a clue what had happened to it. They were still worrying as late as several years after it disappeared that it was still active.
