Even that analogy is pushing it. You're assuming all the bullets used are equal.

AFAIK, all the failures have been reportedly for different reasons. Most should have been anticipated under Murphy's Law. Failure to remove a test prom, using a hand-me-down parts not designed for the cold of space, not using hardened components to survive the errant solar flare, etc.

Then there's the manufacturing errors. Not a Mars mission, but wasn't it Genesis that had the gravity sensors installed upside down so that the parachutes never deployed?

I don't get NASA TV, but CNN is covering it, promoting 7PM EDT for the live coverage.

These liberals are working sooo hard to try and prove earth is NOT unique...trying to disprove The Bible....and The Father who created the universe.

Not unique, yes. Disprove the bible...well...not directly. And we’re not all liberals. Get off your high horse you’re as bad as the hard lefties are.

Back on topic: In Canada, Discovery channel is running live event coverage.

I know. The probe’s actually been in “the grip” for a while now.

The fascinating thing is that they’ve ignored the last two opportunities for course corrections.

I infer from that they’re shooting a “hole-in-one” from here to Pluto, albeit the analogy is a bit flawed in that “luck” plays a significant amount in the golf analogy. The converse is true here also though: mission failure would be akin to a hole-in-one from here to a green on an aircraft carrier on the other side of the planet in 40’ pitching seas with gale force winds. They land planes in those conditions all the time (so this should be a pice of caeke).

Not to stir the pot, but you think life on Earth is just a coincidence? God’s hands are all over His creation.

I hear ‘ya. As if the failure rate is constant and NASA does nothing between failures to improve the odds. It’s the ultimate apples and oranges comparison.
