Bush Trip to Beijing Shameful!
Stiff Right Jab ^ | August 4, 2008 | Chuck Baldwin

By Chuck Baldwin

According to numerous press reports, President George W. Bush plans to attend the opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China later this month. Bush said that it "would be an affront to the Chinese people" if he stayed away. Other world leaders, including Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and Prime Minister Gordon Brown of Britain, are choosing to not attend the opening ceremonies in the communist country.

It is hard for this writer to laud President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, but in this case, even the socialist Roosevelt showed more integrity than our so-called "conservative" President, George W. Bush. When the 1936 Olympics were held in Berlin, Germany, President Roosevelt refused to attend those ceremonies for fear that his presence would give honor and prestige to the notorious Adolf Hitler. And so it would have. And, by the same token, when President Bush attends the opening ceremonies in China, he is giving honor and prestige to the bloody butchers of Beijing who have persecuted, tortured, and murdered multiplied thousands of the Chinese people since the communist regime took power in 1949.

President Bush said it would be an affront to the Chinese people if he did not attend the Olympics. Wrong. It would be an affront to the Red Chinese tyrants. And they deserve to be affronted! Instead, by attending the Olympic ceremonies, Bush is choosing to affront the hundreds of thousands of Chinese victims who have suffered brutality and barbarism at the hands of the very people Bush will be wining and dining with. Actually, by participating in the Beijing Olympics, President Bush is an affront to freedom-loving people everywhere.

For example, the Chinese government has already created profiles of thousands of foreign journalists ...

And may I add, the neocons, new left, and old left libs isolate whomever they will:

Iraq, Iran, Cuba, North Korea, and lest we forget, Russia at the moment as they have expanded NATO over their objections, put missiles in their backyard, etc., but of course, after they updated the Russian infrastructure and military with an enormous influx of Western money, a highly risky (did I say “risky?” I meant “stupid”) relationship between their military and ours, their former KGB (FSB, or whatever the latest) and our FBI, letting them see how we do things, handing over to them stealth technology, look down Radar (now our B-52s can’t go in there low level undetected anymore if they had to), etc.

But China, China has 60,000 students in our country grabbing all our technology, and “free” trade laws that tilt the balance of trade unfairly in their favor, to build the new grave threat to peace and security in the 21st Century.

Note also that the Bush Administration has blocked sales of new F-15’s and other desperately needed military hardware to Taiwan in anticipation of the Olympic games under the same excuse, the fear to offend.

And here I thought Bush believed that either you are for us or against us, and if you are against us, you’re part of the evil axis ... and we’ll hunt you down like dogs.

Amazingly China and Russia weren’t on his list of “evil,” even though they’ve been selling weapons to those evildoers.

***You don’t think that glorifying that hellhole of a country with his presence is grounds for “trashing” him? ***

The President reads reports EVERY morning which tell him what’s going on with the world’s governments. I don’t. You don’t. So who are we to tell him how to do his job when it comes to international relations? I trust his intelligence. I trust his innate honesty. If you don’t, why are you here on FR?

China and Japan will enforce it. That was the whole fallacy behind a US only treaty.

Trust but verify is something that lives long beyond the Reagan Administration.

Did I not also say that boycotts are effective? Remember how the French were affected after 9/11? Why would government enforced trade barriers help to undermine China even as well as a boycott? A boycott would not be actionable by China and they could not use it as leverage with say, Iran. Or anywhere else.

But if the American consumers say, you know what? I am not going to buy this pet food or toothpaste a) because it is from China and b) it’s probably poison.

Buy from anywhere else, but don’t buy from China. And the beauty* is that they will not be able to do a thing about it.

So tell me again how I am supporting China by undermining their economy? The difference between us is that I see that non governmental forces are far more powerful than governmental ones.

*LOL but not Madeline Albright.

Well now, the President should snub the Olympics.

No sitting U.S. president has ever attended a foreign Olympics. Bush didn't attend the 2004 Olympics in Athens. How would not going to this one suddenly be 'snubbing the Olympics'?

China is our enemy.

ANY time an American president pays homage to this country’s enemies it is an affront to me.

I am sorry it is not the same for you.

I’ll leave it to Dubya to decide if he goes or not. I’m behind him either way.

Me too, I won't lose any sleep over it either way.

I don’t.

And I am “here on FR” because it is called FREE Republic, NOT Bush Republic or Republican Republic. That is why.

If he stayed home from the Olympics, some of the same people would dream up a reason to attack him.

Crap. If he stayed home he would be doing no different than what his predecessors have done. No different than what he did in 2004. No sitting U.S. president has ever attended a foreign Olympic game, and I think it's absolutely nauseating that this president has chosen this Olympic game to break with tradition.

For Christ's sake, nobody is talking about boycotting the Olympics. The question is why this president should chose this Olympic game to break with tradition and show up. And the answer is, he doesn't give a damn how it looks. Bush will go because Bush wants to go. Because he wants to see the Olympics as a big shot. China can do whatever it wants, nothing will prevent him from showing up.

I'll bet that if his Chinese escort tell him that the motorcade will detour through Tianamin Square so that they can beat the crowds, Bush'll think they're taking him the short way.

“The Olympics originally were to be non-political (until Jimmy Carter pulled the US team out of Moscow)”

I thought the modern Olympics were to be non-political (until Palestinian Muslim terrorists murdered Israeli atheletes in 1972).

Some things you can blame on Carter (a LOT of things, actually). Politicizing the Olympic games is NOT one of them.

Wasn’t this only an afterthought in the Clinton-Obama debates? It came up and neither of the ninnies had anything so they came up with the idea of withdrawing from the Olympics.

Why take cues from he who believes that he is annointed, but has neither business nor executive nor national security experience?

And the other one, you know that she isn’t done with this year’s convention.

China is our enemy.

We have many enemies in the world. Even Europe hates us. Someone is going to be 'affronted' no matter where the Olympics are held.

ANY time an American president pays homage to this country’s enemies it is an affront to me.

How is attending the opening ceremonies of an international event paying 'homage' to China? That's a stretch at best, and hysterical over-reaction at worst.

Karl Rove is behind this. It’s a secret plan.

You see, no matter what George Bush does, the media will draw attention to it through their criticism. W’s going to China will ensure that the liberal media will open the curtain on China’s human rights history. Criticizing W for having such a tin ear with regards to the human cries for help from an impoverished Chinese citizenry.

Now, If George Bush were to stay away, he would be criticized unmercifully for turning a cold shoulder to China and putting an already tedious international relationship at greater risk by ignoring the olive branch China has extended to the world.

If W really is concerned about China’s human rights record, thin about it, hell, his own reputation doesn’t matter. The media isn’t going to laud him for anything, might as well put the media’s energetic hatred of all things Bush to good use.

(Personally, I am disappointed in the President’s decision in this case.)

I think he's going because he's on his taxpayer-funded farewell tour and doesn't give a damn how it looks. I mean hell, if you're going to do the Olympics then why not do it right? Big plane, free food and lodging, VIP seating, no traffic worries. What could be better than that?

Chuck Baldwin? Leading an international anti-Communist crusade? I thought he was an isolationist?

Oh right, that's only when Israelis are involved.
