Houston Chronicle ^

CRAWFORD — Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's long-shot prospect for vice president is getting a push from conservative and other pundits in the lead-up to next week's Republican National Convention.

The latest flurry of speculation online and on cable television constitutes at least a third or fourth wave of chatter about Hutchison, whose name surfaces occasionally as a possible Republican vice-presidential candidate...

Hutchinson is pro choice, clearly pro choice...

U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison is one of very few pro-abortion-rights voices in a Texas delegation dominated by the Christian right. (Four years ago at the state convention, they even tried to bar her from serving as a delegate to the national convention in San Diego, because of her position on abortion.) Hutchison disregards the pro-life planks in the state and national platforms: "Platforms are not anything that you ever agree with 100%." In response to a question, Hutchison said that her position has not changed: "A woman has a right to choose abortion, with restrictions, until viability." But she seemed uncomfortable discussing the issue in front of the Texas delegation and quickly curtailed her remarks: "That's all that I have to say."

"Kay is not the right woman, but I don’t want her to be called pro-abortion when we know she isn’t."

Hear, hear! Lying about someone in order to assassinate their character is a leftist tactic. Conservatives should be above that.

Darn it, if only the Repubs could find a black, Jewish woman, we’d have the election in the bag!

If Sammy Davis, Jr. has a widow...

After watching Mitt take care of Couric and Wolfie at the convention, my money is on him. He did a terrific job and I have a whole new respect for Mitt today.

Reported on F&F this a.m. that Mitt hasn't talked to McCain recently. Either its not him, or McCain doesn't want any advance leaks.

As with Biden, look for the presence of Secret Service agents at the location of the VP nominee shortly before the announcement. Thursday night will be exciting, and not for the anointing of "The One."

‘Mazing ain’t it! McCain is as good as we’ll get in present circumstances. America has shifted to the left except for me and you and sometimes I wonder about you

Democrat party = socialist party
Republican party = what used to be the Democrat party

Then McCain would have a revolt on his hands with the GOP rank-and-file for teaming up with a pro-choice candidate, regardless of gender.

Yep. Now it is up to us to get serious about infiltrating our own party...

I heard that, too, Dave and it got me worried as I am hoping for Mitt. For those who missed it, Karl told the Friends that Mitt told him yesterday that he hasn't heard from the McCain camp in three days, so Karl thinks it might not be him. Or it might be and they are keeping us guessing.

Why KBH?

Why not Blackburn, Bachmann or Palin?

KBH is ok, could be worst.

She's been slow-rolling our border fence down here, along with Gov. Rick Perry.

"Would definitely get all those pissed off Hillary supporters."

Yes, it would, while losing a MUCH LARGER number of pro-life voters. A BIG mistake if McCain chooses her, but the Democrats will be thrilled.

I mean-if he doesn’t pick Duncan Hunter, the man who should be 44.

I’m not pining for Palin, I’m just saying that she’d make a strategically/politically better choice than KBH.

I disagree. I never even heard of her until a month ago---on FR. I'm not for KBH, either.

I prefer a man...since Jeane Kirkpatrick is not available.

Ahhh, she's not that old now!

I'm more concerned about her pandering to anti-borderfence crowd and border city Democrats.
