McCain missed a golden opportunity during the education debate question. At the end of Obama’s blubbering he started to mention that parents need to step up to the plate.

This is when McCain should have said “That is the first thing you have proposed in this campaign that didn’t involve the federal government!”

One of the best Freudian slips of the campaign so far.

Senator Government--I love it!

Honestly, McCain did what he needed to do. Obummer was silky smooove, but McCain let Obuthead try to be the Right Man, to make the Right Decisions, at the right time. McCain stood by the free market and free will, he made this about Joe Plummer vs. Obama. The Meida elites, including our friendlies, will miss this.

This is when McCain should have said “That is the first thing you have proposed in this campaign that didn’t involve the federal government!”

I thought he should have said, "You are blaming everyone but the teacher's unions."

Another MAJOR opportunity was when Obama was going off on the auto industry and how he'd fix it. I wish McCain would have said, "Great news Michigan, Senator Obama is going to teach you how to build cars. I bet you can hardly wait."

It was funny. I thought McCain won comfortably tonight, for the first time.

Even if George Will disagrees. :P

Or better still:

"You plan to teach Michigan how to build cars? How many cars have you ever build, Senator Obama?"

I laughed out loud when McCain said “Senator Government”.

Choice.

Wonder if it was intentional. That would be creative.

“You plan to teach Michigan how to build cars?”

OMG, I know, I have family in Michigan and they were pissed that he said that Michigan didn’t know how to build cars...he said it the first time and I thought — OMG he is going to get crushed for that — then the moron came back a second time and dig his hole with Michigan auto workers again even deeper...yeah, I heard that loud and clear.

Thanks, for your assessments because I was not able to see the debate tonight but I got home in time to see Fox’s analysis and it sounded like a disaster! I can always count on you FReepers to filter the filter.

Yes, Senator Government came right from McCain’s subconscious. It was great. and True and Powerful and should become the theme of hte rest of the campaign. It got past McCain’s weird censor which prevents him from really being a powerful candidate.

Someone needs to run some ads in Michigan.

“McCain stood by the free market and free will, he made this about Joe Plummer vs. Obama. The Meida elites, including our friendlies, will miss this. “

That’s right. I cannot even bear to watch Fox anymore. That roundtable is terrible. Hume, Barnes and Kristol are totally co-opted. They are so inside the Belt-way, they miss the trashing the McCain gave Obama tonight. Hammered Tax, Government, Abortion, Acorn, ObamaSilky birt Misleading style of speech, etc. These are all hits by McCain. Bst of all was framing things around “Joe the Plumber”. [Note, it was actually Obama who first offered the locution “Joe the Pumber” which McC wisely adopted after himself having mangled Wurzelbacher’s name into Wurzelberger when he first referred to the Plumber.

The media types miss how the rest of the country hears these things. “No knockout blow” isso silly. It is all about the incredibly dense “undecided” or only leaning types. If genuinely undecided at this point, I believe that McC won those voters with tonight’s performance. Obama looked frazzled, a little rough tho still smoothed tongued. Yet McC was able to raise Obama’ careful parsing of speech and nail him at least 3 times.

I couldn’t agree more. Fred Barnes and Bill Kristol are so milquetoast.

Even Luntz focus group only showed 4 out of 23 going toward Obama on account of the debate. The general sense from a number of people in the group was Obama is smooth and a good talker, but I trust McCain.

I think it’s better to be known as “trustworthy” than it is to be known as a “smooth talker”, don’t you?
