People here are saying here she's too right wing to ever win an election and doesn't have any credentials with independents?
Yeah, maybe after the MSM character assassination she went under but people have the memories of gnats and expectations for her will be non-existent if she runs for President. She's a quick study and will surprise a lot of people.
But do any of you know about her record in Alaska?
She challenged a corrupt incumbent republican governor in the primary with no institutional support and very little money and won. The Alaskan Republican Party hates her guts and that's a good thing! She then beat a democrat former governor of Alaska.
She raised taxes on the oil companies and cut every citizen of Alaska a check for $1300. Yeah, a lot of people don't like economic populism but it plays with lots of conservative democrats and independents.
She's a fiscal conservative that balances budgets and uses the veto pen and wants to streamline and minimize government.
She passed a $40 billion natural gas pipeline, a project that has been in the works for decades and every predecessor failed to get passed, the largest infrastructure project in US history. She did it in her first year as Governor.
Yeah, she's a social conservative but she's also a pragmatist. She's not against sex education in schools, or teaching evolution, or banning books, or any of the nutty things the liberals have been saying about her. Yeah, she's pro-life, so was Ronald Reagan.
I don't know if 2012 is the right timing for her. She is a woman and unfortunately there is a much higher standard necessary for a woman to cross that commander-in-chief threshold especially for her after she's been ridiculed so much by the media.
Her best bet may be to achieve a record of accomplishment in Alaska as a two-term governor and set her sights on 2016.
Given enough time and a serious study of national and international issues (lots of foreign policy trips, speeches at think tanks, appearances on FOX News and becoming a regular on the sunday morning shows, campaigning to take back the house and senate in 2010), she will rebuild her credibility with the American people.
And remember before Sarah became the pitbull with lipstick she was the pragmatic fiscally conservative governor of an energy state with 80% approval ratings which you need lots of independent and democratic support to get. That was her brand and if there is any crime the McCain people did to her was destroy that brand she worked her whole political career to achieve.
I do too. It was one of the good things he did for this race.
Decent women like Sarah Palin have no chance with the MSM today....... She had to be destroyed by them. She is a huge threat to the feminist agenda. She is the female Dan Quayle now to the public at large, and he was destroyed needlessly. McCain couldn’t win on this one. It wasn’t her fault. She was nice while she lasted..... :-(
Excuse me but get your head out of the sand. I went to a fundraiser where he spoke and left in the middle of the deal after his sarcastic comments. Excuse me if I don’t bow down and say what a wonderful job he did in picking Paulson that led to the October surprise of the economy and how everything had to pass now or we are doomed. How about the fact he sided with Obama in the meeting against McCain and Boehner?
Bush has been bad news for the Republicans since he was reelected in 2004. He never stood up to the media or the Dems and in 2006 he said how much he looked forward to working with the Dems.
I have had it and I helped get him elected four times but I refuse to be blind about the man. He is NOT the man I knew as Governor of Texas.
If Republicans turn against Sarah, I will turn against them... do not try me! There is NO REPUBLICAN PARTY without SARAH!

Sarah is the reason my husband and I voted for McCain and I am sure there are others who feel the same way.
He never bothered to take his message to the people or defend himself and the military. He sat back and took all the shots and then kept reaching across to the Dems who would bite off his hand. No backbone since being reelected. The bailout was a nightmare giving all kinds of power to Paulson who supported Obama.
Sarah Palin is strong and smart. She doesn’t worry about what other people think. She just does the right thing for her state. She would have done the right thing for our country. I’m so glad we got to know her.
I cannot believe he didn’t know the effect it would have either. When he sided with Paulson and Obama in the meeting, I knew McCain should have stayed on the campaign — he was doublecrossed by Paulson who begged him to come back.
How Bush ever appointed Paulson to begin with is beyond me since he was recommended by Schumer.
Defeating our enemies is not.
Give Obama two years of not solving the problem. Keep pointing out he's not solving the problem. Tell your neighbors “You don't have a new job because of Obama’s tax policies.” Eventually they will get the message.
This redemption will take us ten years. We'd better start now.

I don’t like anyone trashing her either, the way women were treated in this election can be used as a way to get the women vote next time and also the way to throw out the sexist card to get Dems to vote for a woman like the race card was used to get people to vote for a black man. So don’t do it or you will find your own words being thrown up when a woman runs again.
I totally agree about McCain. Look, the man is a war hero, no question about that and I have the utmost respect for his service and what he has been through. But, he did not stand up to his challengers on the Democrat side. He made a few statements, but he didn’t FIGHT. It was almost as if he didn’t want to anger his friends on the other side of the isle.
HE, John McCain, lost the race and to try to blame Sarah Palin is disingenious at the very least. I probably would not have voted at all in this election if he had not chosen Palin. He needed someone who was strong where he was weak and he found that in her. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t enough.

I agree that Governor Palin was the only reason the race was a close as it was. And she was the only reason I voted for McCain, rather than write-in a true conservative.
McCain lost a very winnable election. I don’t think he lost it because he didn’t expose “Reverend” Wright. He lost it because he didn’t articulate a conservative message and, in particular, he failed to articulate the true reason for the financial meltdown. He took the stupid populist talking points that it was “Wall Street greed” rather than democrat corruption and idiotic public policy that redefined home ownership as a civil right. Consequently, he gave obama cover by verifying the greed as the cause mantra, and also ensured that he would be blamed for it by his association with the Bush administration - since they were tarred with being responsible for all of this nasty greed.
In any event, although I admire Governor Palin; I consider her more of a populist than a conservative. I hope a true conservative rises out of the ashes, and I suspect that an obama administration will be the impetus to make that happen. However, I also realize that there is a point of no return; I hope we don’t find it during this upcoming administration and that there will be pieces left for a conservative successor to pick up when this nightmare comes to an end.
There’s no love lost between Bush and I, but I do try to be fair with the guy. I have defended him. I have conceded that I haven’t been fair to him at times.
The fact is, you are absolutely right. Bush, the do nothing Republican Congress, and Juan McCain share the blame for what couldn’t have been better choreographed if they had hired someone to design a way to destroy Conservatism.
Denny Hastert was chosen because he would be a moderate on que. He became invisible and then wondered why nobody thought the Republicans in Congress had a backbone.
It makes me sick to dwell on this right now.

I do have to admit I gained some respect for McCain this last few weeks that I never had for the man while he was just a senator... McCain has always been too bipartisan worrying too much for the other side... my housemate and I got in many arguments over this very thing over the years, he loved it, and I couldn’t stand McCain for it. To me McCain always seemed too concerned with how people perceived him.... perhaps it was a byproduct of the taint that so humiliated him in the keating scandal... he didn’t take that fire and level it out but took the extreme in his desire to be liked equally by both sides.... at least thats how it seemed... but this last few weeks he began to surprise me with his fire, but even in that fire you could see his reservation of really going all out... particularly in the Rev Wright mess... there is no way in a million years that should have ever been taken off the table... not one person who has been to a church more than 3-4 times can honestly say they don’t generally know where that church pastor is coming from... and worse Obama wrote about it in his book, and still he was able to skate above the story and McCain helped him by putting it basically off limits... so to end it on a good note, though McCain is a very good man and I have the utmost respect for the man, he made some very obvious mistakes that cannot be written off....
