Nanny state snatches kids for being too fat

A couple soon expecting their seventh child has had their fifth and sixth taken by social workers after warnings that the family needed to slim down their overweight kids or risk losing custody.

The unnamed 39-year-old mother from Dundee, Scotland, told the United Kingdom's The Sun newspaper, "This is every family's worst nightmare."

Scotland's television station STV reports the family was warned last year that they risk losing all of their kids, ages 3 to 13, unless the children lost weight. At the time, the youngest, a girl, weighed 56 pounds. The oldest, a boy, has since grown to over 220 pounds.

"This whole case has been dreadful," said Kathleen Price, the couple's attorney. "Neither of these parents takes drink or drugs. They have a big, happy, noisy family, which is prone to being overweight."

Price added, "To remove their children for that reason is scandalous. They had their children taken from them … and have no idea where they are. I have also had to warn them I believe social workers will enter the labor suite when their new baby arrives next month. They feel they are being victimized and are a complete mess."

If the father is man enough to sire 7 children, he should be man enough to defend his own against the state.

I realize that you can't own guns, knives, swords or any real weapons there, but they still have fenceposts, don't they?

Time will tell if Americans have the will to be free. In the UK, we have the answer already.

As a matter of fact, they do have fence posts. However, due to the particulars of the law, they are not permitted to use them. Not even for fences - too uninviting.

“The couple originally contacted social workers last year, seeking help with managing their children, STV reports, but local officials soon began to grow concerned about the children’s weight.”

Their first mistake. A gummit big enough to give them what they want is also big enough to take it all away.

Will people ever understand that you can’t have freedom if you don’t have the freedom to make “wrong” choices for yourself and your family? Freedom doesn’t mean everyone does what is “best” for the whole. It means you have the right to make your own choices for better or for worse and to live with the consequences for the better or the worse.

They tried this with my first, except it was because she was too small for her age. they said that she wasn’t developing according to their charts, they hospitalized her and made me feed her (six months old at the time!) potatos and gravy.
After a week of this, they realized that she still wasn’t gaining any weight so gee, maybe she was just small for her age. Imagine that. And the idiot nutritionist suggested I start shoveling peanut butter into her to bring her weight up.

The next baby’s pediatrician told me that if my son (four months old) didn’t start fitting into the charts by his next well baby checkup, he would have to be hospitalized. So I just skip all the appts after two months and when I bring them in for their first yearly checkup, they’re fine.

I thought at the time they should start grabbing fat kids too, just to be fair...

Yes, coming to this country in HCR.

The Senate version of the bill sets up community watch dogs to monitor various health parameters of citizens. Look at pages 382 - 393.

"Coming to a country near you if the people don't take back the country."

Sorry, I disagree- a 220 lb. 13 yr old is direct evidence of child abuse- unless there is a provable medical abnormality.

Well, I do not agree with government goons snatching children, I really do not know what the solution to this is. It should be criminal to allow children to become obese. There is absolutely no excuse for it. Those kids will have permanent health problems.

I don’t agree with taking children from what is otherwise a loving home. But children that obese are just as malnourished as underfed children. Those kids aren’t healthy and are going to have some serious health problems *very* soon if they don’t lose weight. Rather than taking the children, educate the parents. Use the resources that would pay for foster care to teach the parents to shop wisely, plan meals, incorporate veggies and fruit and exercise. Even taking walks as a family or playing kickball is better than nothing. 220 lbs at his age is not ‘large’ it’s horribly obese and the sooner he loses it the better off he will be. It’s got to be terrible to be that big, at that age.

Oh, I just read a part I had missed. They’d contacted authorities last year for help with ‘managing their children’??? How about stop having so many if you can’t manage the ones you’ve got?

I'd like to know why they are targeting ages 55 to 64?

Every time I read through this bill I get the feeling that Pelosi, Reid and Obama sent out a call for all the ideas rejected by the Republican Administrations and said, "Just pile them all up and we'll formulate them into one big jumbled mess of legalese so it looks good and maybe we can fool them long enough to get it passed."
