PHILADELPHIA -- Ohio State University geologists have found that important rocks from Niagara Gorge -- rock formations that are used to judge the ages of rocks and fossils around North America -- formed five times faster than previously thought.
The finding means that scientists will have to re-examine studies of sedimentary rock deposited across North America during the Silurian period, from 416 to 443 million years ago.

Wait a minute - aren’t those layers dated by the fossils contained therein, which in turn are dated by the layers in which they’re found?
And would that make us 5 million years older?
In the big picture of things, that seems like a pretty small recalibration.

Rock of ages, cleft from me.........................
~420 million years would be well before most of this, but if you look at the actual change, it doesn't change the overall age, just the speed in which they formed, they are still within the ~420 million year old date range.

Must scroll down for the discussion.....
It’s not old until it Grenville old.
Wow, I’m amazed a Young Earth journal is acknowledging a scientific study that references the rocks being ~420 million years old. I guess their understanding is evolving.
You are correct, that is why the start of formation date did not change. Ignore the circular reasoning, in the end it will hurt you.

Cramer and his advisor, Matthew Saltzman, professor of earth sciences, and their colleagues used a relatively new technique called high-resolution carbon isotope stratigraphy to determine the age of rocks in Niagara Gorge in New York .
Better phrased: "In the end it will come back to bite you".
Exactly, it doesn’t change the start date, the study is just on the rate of formation. We have a lot of physical and chemical sign posts as to the overall date of rocks. As I pointed out above this, it is a pretty minor recalibration in the big picture of things. A few million years of formation time in a ~420 million year old rock.
Evolutionists/Darwinists will not be happy. Looks like Dr. Dino was right.
Even better phrased: “In the end it will come back to bite you In the end”.
Leave Dr Dumbo out of it.
Ultimately, the geologists hope to perform similar studies of rock from other time periods, to better pinpoint periods of global climate change in Earth's history.
Associating your research with today's "climate change" fad is a sure way of improving your chances of getting a grant. That may be a factor in the desperate need of the scientific establishment to continue the hysteria. However, notice another quote:
During times of apparent rapid climate change at other locations around the globe
which clearly indicates that rapid change has occurred long before there were people to blame it on.
