ScienceDaily (Jan. 22, 2008) The first evidence of a volcanic eruption from beneath Antarctica's most rapidly changing ice sheet has been reported. The volcano on the West Antarctic Ice Sheet erupted 2000 years ago (325BC) and remains active.
The subglacial volcano has a 'volcanic explosion index' of around 3-4. Heat from the volcano creates melt-water that lubricates the base of the ice sheet and increases the flow towards the sea. Pine Island Glacier on the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is showing rapid change and BAS scientists are part of an international research effort to understand this change.

Man, these AGW clowns just can’t catch a break anymore. :)
Do you realize how lucky we are for that?

We were an ice planet at one point in the earth’s history. The environment changed dramatically when volcanoes under the ice sheets erupted and melted it all.

Whenever you read about " glaciers and ice sheets" melting in Antarctica, they are talking about the western ice field. The West Antarctic Ice Sheet is the only part of Antarctica that is shedding. Now we know why. The rest of the continent is gaining in ice and snow cover.

When steam and volcanic ash finally poke through the glacial shelf, that should be AGW’s death knell.

The funny thing is that I think that one volcano produces more ‘green house gases’ than decades of human activity.

Interesting - all the references you see to loss of Anartic ice actually concerns the western area.
They like to ignore how the ice is growing and thickening in the east.

That's what I had read awhile ago. There was a post today about USGS Ice Shelves Disappearing on Antarctic Peninsula. I wanted to post this because I remember reading about the volcano's. The USGS article was misleading, I thought, and was put out today. Looks to me like they are doing everything they can to cook the books.
