And another anti-Tea Party RINO-backing troll weighs in. Ho hum.
Is there an actual “Tea Party” in California? Or is this a vote of anybody who identified themselves as “tea party”?
In any case, it’s cool that they were able to get 10,000 people to show up for a convention. Pretty good number for a straw poll. I wonder if any of the media will cover it.
I’m surprised Campbell got so many votes, but how did they decide who was “tea party” for this vote? Maybe Campbell got some of his supporters to show up and vote for Campbell.
I'm not. Campbell has two things going for him -- he has the libertarian wing and he is seen as the more viable to beat Boxer here.
Chuck Devore is a really good guy, but he disenfranchised the Ron Paul people (who are big here) three years ago with an attack on Ron Paul and praise for Lincoln "Ron Paul is wrong on the Civil War and slavery and he should be ashamed" re Paul's remark (in the context of some governor mentioning it) on the right to a State to secede.
Chuck Devore:...As for states not having the right to seceed, that is obvious, as the United States was created with the ratification of the Constitution hence only a legal dissolving of the same could allow a state to become independent. ...
Chuck kind of shot himself in the foot with that article. And, I think Chuck really expected Sarah Palin's endorsement instead, but that didn't happen.
It's too bad that Chuck didn't lean a little more libertarian and a little less statist and social conservative or he'd have picked up more like 85% of the Tea Party people here.
Well, I did a lot of bitching on this forum saying that Carly was electable and De Vore isn’t but in the end when I marked my absentee ballot, I voted for De Vore. I couldn’t bring myself to vote for someone I know is a RINO. I fully expect Campbell to win because of the vote split between Carly and Chuck but I could not vote for the lesser evil this time, or ever again.
What’s the difference between “Rogue” and “Maverick”? I forgot. /s

Well, he was still out-polled by “Other.” LOL
The GOP battle to face incumbent US Senator Democrat Barbara Boxer in November remains essentially unchanged. Today, former Congressman Tom Campbell defeats former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, 35% to 24%. State assembly member Chuck DeVore gets 15%. Limited movement since SurveyUSA's previous poll. 23% are undecided: Among men, Campbell had led by 8 points, now leads by 12; among women, Campbell had led by 5, now 10. DeVore is up 5 points among voters age 18 to 49, Campbell is down 5, Fiorina is down 10. Among voters age 50+, Campbell is up 6. In California's Inland Empire, Fiorina had led by 6 points, now trails by 5. Campbell's lead in the Bay Area is now smaller, but his lead in greater Los Angeles is now larger.
Their results are as follows ...
Campbell - 35% Fiorina - 24% DeVore - 15% Undecided - 23%
You have seen discussion of the California Governor's race on other places on this web site. Today we want to discuss the candidates and campaign for the U.S. Senate nomination to replace Barbara Boxer.
Months ago we were in an enviable position, both candidates were pro-life. Pro-life Assemblyman Chuck DeVore was running and Carly Fiorina, who had made public statements of being pro-life. What remained was assertaining just how real those commitments were.
Fiorina is the former Chairman of Hewlett-Packard and her pro-life comments were in contrast to the typical Silicon Valley 'culture' of monied Republicans. Her pro-life commitment meant she would be risking the alienation of some of her 'pro-choice' Rockerfeller Republican friends. It turned out that Fiorina was indeed genuine and has been endorsed by the Susan B. Anthony List which only endorses 100% pro-life candidates.
Fiorina has since met with National Right to Life Committee leadership and committed to very specific issues of pro-life public policy. Board members of California ProLife also met with her and all have been impressed by her genuine and heartfelt commitment to the cause of Life.
All of the election's dynamic changed when pro-abortion candidate Tom Campbell moved from the Governor's race to the U.S. Senate Race. Would this create a scenario we've seen too many times before? The pro-life candidates split the vote between them allowing the pro-abortion candidate to become the nominee. We hope not.
The Board of California ProLife has been watching this race carefully and hoping that Campbell would not pose a threat, but now the scenario is requiring incisive action. DeVore has been attacking Fiorina for not being conservative 'enough' because she is seen as competing for his conservative base. And Campbell has continued to gain in the polls posing as a conservative.
Perhaps most importantly, though all of CPLC's Board knows Chuck, all were equally concerned about his actual ability to break out beyond 'our base' to reach the wider electorate (which is how elections work.) Chuck has had a very hard time demonstrating the ability to raise the funds necessary to compete in a state the size of California, and this has been frustrating to many involved.
At the last reporting DeVore had $300,000 on hand; Fiorina $2,800,000; and Campbell $800,000. Perhpas more importantly, like other statewide candidates of note, Fiorina also has substantial, personal financial resources she has still not drawn on.
Who will have the resources to close the gap on Campbell and then turn around and do the same to Boxer?
While DeVore is indeed pro-life and familiar to us all, Fiorina is clearly better situated to fight an incredibly expensive campaign in the most costly state of the union.
Carly Fiorina has shown a genuine personal commitment to life, as well as clearly articulated policy commitments. Her husband's mother was told to abort him, but as Carly has said, it is his presence that is 'the rock of my life.' And as a recent cancer survivor she knows the threats posed by euthanasia and rationing. She is assertively opposed to both, in addition to opposing the Obama plan for Healthcare. She is outspoken against the 'climate mongering' which appears to have as a goal the reduction of human population.
She has been endorsed by the national pro-life women's group, Susan B. Anthony List and pro-life Senators Kyl, Graham, Coburn, McCain, and Inhofe.
California ProLife Council PAC has added its endorsement as well. CPLC's endorsement of Carly is not a repudiation of Chuck DeVore as much as it is an earnest desire to defeat both Tom Campbell and Barbara Boxer. In our considered opinion, Carly Fiorina is the pro-life candidate that can do that.
Would not surprise me if some here would trash Michelle because she still supports Sarah.
The 21% were tricked by Fiorina's undeserved endorsements.
Troubling that she would say she would have voted for Sotamayer(sp) unless it was someone trying to play the Hispanic race card on her?
Sarah is pro life, the pro life groups are pro life, they both have endorsed Carly.
“Sen. Feinstein has been a fine senator for the state of California, and has accomplished a great deal. I would describe her as a pragmatic problem-solver. I admire her, I respect her. I like her. I think and I hope she would say the same about me.” —Carly Fiorina
Governor Palin just had a busy two days.
She is defending AZ from the boycotts
She gave a major pro-life speech
She spoke to the NRA
And she endorsed Nikki Haley of SC.
If you believe she's a RINO you are a fool.
What is the truth then, Is Carly Pro life or not?
Well, speaking for myself (I guess we all do that when we post ... eh? ... LOL ...) I usually figure that the groups who have their "one issue" at stake (such as a "pro-life group) should know what they are doing for that one issue -- or else, the group should just "fold up shop and go home" ... :-)
I mean, if they don't know then how can anyone else know? It's their "one issue" that their entire existence (that "group") is based upon. I would hate to think that prolife groups are that inept. Perhaps they are and that's why the law is pretty much still for abortion today...
As for me, I'm pro-life ... :-)
Sarah is pro life, the pro life groups are pro life, they both have endorsed Carly.
Well, I'll let you in on a little secret here... there are people on Free Republic who say that even Sarah Palin is not pro-life ... :-) (no... really, that's what they say ...).
Now, I personally hold to the idea that Sarah Palin is pro-life -- but I just thought you should know... in case you weren't aware of that. That's not my idea, however.
Some of these people might very well be saying that since Sarah Palin is not "really" pro-life and since these pro-life groups "really" don't know what they're doing -- that's why Carly Fiorina was endorsed as a pro-life candidate -- even though she isn't...
Hey ... I have no idea why some people say that... "really" ... :-)
In November, while speaking at an event sponsored by the conservative magazine the American Spectator, Fiorina said she "probably would have voted for" Justice Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to the court. Sotomayor has said she considers abortion rights to be an issue settled by the court. On Friday, Fiorina said, "I do not believe where a potential judicial nominee stands on that issue is a qualifier or an unqualifier."

Fiorina would be another vote in the Senate for pro-abortion nominees to the Supreme Court.
