Southern California is long overdue for a major earthquake along the San Andreas fault, according to a landmark study of historic seismic activity released Friday.
The study, produced after several years of field studies in the Carrizo Plain area about 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles, found that earthquakes along the San Andreas fault have occurred far more often than previously believed.
For years, scientists have said major earthquakes occurred every 250 to 450 years along this part of the San Andreas. The new study found big temblors on the fault every 88 years, on average

Ok.....maybe then we will be able to have two seperate states. Southern California and Northern California. Southern California is liberal, Northern California is conservative. Perfect split.
I hope it waits at least another six years so I can retire, sell and get out of this state.
That's pretty sweeping, don't you think.....what, did you lop off San Francisco?
California’s left leaning bias in elections is almost entirely due to San Francisco and Los Angeles. Like a lot of others on this forum, the other poster wants to throw out the baby with the bath water.
“That’s pretty sweeping, don’t you think.....what, did you lop off San Francisco?”
Great idea!
Some times the fault will slip a little and the dust cloud will float up from the crack for miles and miles. It can be seen from the freeway (I-10) here in the Coachella Valley.
That's pretty sweeping, don't you think.....what, did you lop off San Francisco?
And Alameda county, Santa Cruz county, Santa Clara county, San Mateo county..... the whole bay area is libtard central.
It’s interesting to witness a purely geological article morphed into a political thread.
Because San Francisco is not in Northern California. It's in the Bay Area.
I love the way people in LA think anything past Lancaster is Northern California
Maybe a good shaker is what is needed to send the cockroaches infesting this state over the past few decades scurrying back home.
My worry is the cockroaches will scurry to Idaho.
We spent some time in Idaho this summer...it was my first time there.
Just beautiful!
***My worry is the cockroaches will scurry to Idaho.***
From an old 1969 song...
Where can you go-
When there’s no San Francisco?
Better get ready-
To tie up the boat in Idaho!
With any luck, Pelosi, Fineswine, Waxjob, Stark(raving mad), Boxer, et will all be back there when it hits.
Perhaps that’s how God will save America (assuming He considers it worth saving at this time).
LOL!! Never heard that one.
One of the treasures of Idaho are the people. While I think Americans in general are friendly kind folks, it seems in Idaho they are especially good people.
Hope you made it up the eastern side of the state...in the Salmon, Challis, Stanley area...spectacular.
I recently rode my motorcycle across northern Idaho.
The people I met and talked with were friendly indeed.
However, the Forest Service up there seems intent on shutting everything down that they can (even if they aren’t suppose to).
The are closing back roads to ‘improve the bear habitat’ and the like. As if the bears don’t like roads too! (they do, saw lots on the roads!)
And they can’t be bothered to update their maps... even ones that are required by law. There was a 2006 settlement that required the USFS to publish MVUM (motorized vehicle usage maps) for each of the national forests... only the area around Boise has the maps done. The other areas are too busy working shutting stuff down to bother to update the maps!
