Some Republicans Want Platform to Back Embryonic Stem Cell Research (Mike Castle Liberalism Again)

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Saying it hands John Kerry a political issue to use in the presidential election, some Republicans are looking to add language downplaying President Bush's position against taxpayer funding of embryonic stem cell research.

Delaware Congressman Mike Castle released a letter to members of the Republican party's platform committee Thursday urging them to include language in the platform advocating Bush's position to be overturned.

Castle, who has sponsored legislation seeking to overturn the policy and allow taxpayer funds to pay for the destruction of human embryos in research, wants the upcoming party platform to reflect his position.

"It is important to show the embryonic stem cell research is not a so-called wedge issue and that it does have bipartisan support," Castle said.

But pro-life advocates on the platform committee say Castle's efforts will be futile.

Let us remember that Castle voted to investigate Bush about the Iraq war.

Castle is one of these pukes who views tiny human embryos as being nothing more than a different sort of caviar.

Time to turn Castle into political chum!

Castle votes with the Dems on most of the important issues- Abortion, Taxes, Defense..

I just dumped 3 archive articles in news but there are dozens more I could post. (I have to run but maybe someone else has time to play with news archives).

This makes perfect sense, coming from Congress. Like the war on poverty, the war on drugs, and the war on bad education, embryonic stem cell research has produced no track record of success, therefore we need to throw even more money down the rat hole of persistent failure.

On the up side, think of the donors and supporters who will profit from the direct payments from Congress, and the secret offshore accounts that will bulge even further after the appropriate kickbacks..er, I mean campaign donations.

Mike Castle is liberal on defense, liberal on spending, liberal on big, corrupt government, and liberal on baby killing and same-sex marriage.

How any Republican can justify voting for him is beyond me.

You know a great way to kill this issue?

Address it scientifically. Embryonic stem cells:

1. DON’T WORK
2. CAUSE CANCER

Adult stem cells:

1. Work
2. Are the patients own DNA so no rejection/reaction risk

End of discussion.

My understanding is that adult stem cells produce better results than embyonic. At that time (maybe 10 yrs ago) I thought a ton of private money went into adult SC research for that reason.

If that’s still true, why isn’t the medical community driving that point home? Or is it that abortion rules even there?

Exactly correct. Embryonic stem cells should already be a non issue. They are completely unnecessary. Advances in other areas makes spending one dime on this deadly research a total waste.

He should change his party affiliation to ‘D’ and his name to Mike Hunt.

Adult stem cells and related technologies are being tested with varying levels of success for:

-Multiple Sclerosis
-Spinal Injuries
-male pattern baldness
-Lupus
-Rheumatoid Arthritis

Basically, the research seems to suggest that adult stem cells can teach the body to regrow cells that normally wouldn’t and also to “fix” the immune system in autoimmune disorders.

Nothing has been finalized, but the testing phases of all the above illnesses (and many more I haven’t read about) seem to suggest very high success rates among test subjects far better than any treatments currently available.

One can make an argument for abortion rights under Roe vs. Wade. The argument might not be persuasive, but there is a certain logic to it.

The argument for Embryonic Stem Cell Research, on the other hand, is flat-out evil. It weighs the value of human life against some external good, and finds in favor of the external. That kind of utilitarian thinking has paved the way for every mass-murdering despot to come down the pike, from Cain to Hitler to Mao.

We know where this road leads. We must not take this turn.

Only if you ignore the issue of whether or not an unborn child has rights of its own, and focus solely on the right to privacy of the mother, which the court did.

Aborting a fetus is murder.

Abortion should only be legalized for rape, incest or the endangerment of the life of the mother.

Abortion should not be used as a birth control method.

Where in the Constitution is any Federal Connection to the issue of Embryonic or other Stem Cell scientific research? Health Insurance? Gay Marriage? Abortion?

It is the States that form the Federal Government, not vice-versa.
