Here it takes 4 years just to get through the mandated environmental impact studies.

I believe the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis that collapsed back in 2007 was replaced by a new one that took less than a year to build from start of preliminary design to completion.

The Feds waived the EIS requirement for that one, too.

A full environmental study and alternatives assessment under Federal law makes a lot of sense when you're dealing with a new project from the ground up -- because it's aimed at determining relative performance measures for different options to address a major infrastructure need.

As an FYI, the Federal requirements for environmental studies are not all-encompassing. From what I understand, they're typically required only for major projects that are financed using Federal money. I've worked on several projects at the state level where they turned down Federal matching funds in order to avoid meeting the Federal requirements that came with the money.

O come on! It’s only been 9 1/2 years since the attack on the World Trade Center! They’ll be rebuilt in, what, another 3 or 4?

The picture on the right looks like it was taken about a half mile short of the picture on the left, and the bottom picture doesn’t seem to be near either area.

They’ve been working on I-95 in New York since I went to college at age 16. Last time I went through there there was still sections being worked on. I’ll be 47 in September.

Japan has unions, but they're obviously much different than they are here.

I read somewhere recently that Honda plants in Japan are all unionized . . . and that Honda hasn't had a work stoppage at any of its plants since something like 1957.

In Louisiana, there is constant road construction. So much so that there are orange cones on almost all the major roads mostly in South La.
The joke there is that the unofficial flag is the orange cone. The state bird is the mosquito.

You mean like this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connecticut_Route_11

It would be great to be able to take Route 11 all the way down to the shopping. Instead we have to take a two lane state highway (Rt 85) and it adds about 20 min to the trip.

I bet it would only take them 4 weeks to build a really bitchin’ wall right where we need it.

In Louisiana, there is constant road construction.

We prefer "Messing with the damn road again" rather than construction. Construction would imply fixing or building something to last.

"Japanese Highway Rebuilt After 4 days!"

Coming up on the 10th anniversary of 9-11 and the WTC isn't even half-way finished.

Agreed. The pics do not seem to match the claim.

Well, it's not really the same section.

The pic on the left is a close up of the damage. The pic on the right is from quite a bit back father. Notice the trees on the right of the road.

Not saying that the construction isn't complete.
Just saying.....

The Japanese will probably bulldoze all that rubble into a new Island and develop the new island.

Just takes a little determination...

“No we can’t”!”No we won’t”!

You know, good ol’ American gumption.
