Multiple studies are now confirming an unusual reduction in solar activity. We may be entering a period of significantly colder weather akin to the Dalton or Maunder minimums of centuries ago.

it would be kind of funny / karmic if God sent us into an ice age after the global warming hysterics of the past 15 years... al gore would still be blaming the ice age on global warming.

or from the movie: 2010

the activity reduced, lessened, and went out just before the implosion.

These sky watchers don’t have the slightest idea of what is actually occuring. It’s simply an unending diary of events with no sound conclusions because there are too many unknowns.

Yesterday we had a heat index of 108 according to my outside temperature gauge.

Today we expect the same.

I wish it would get cooler. You can barely breathe in this heat.

Quick! We must de-industrialize Western Civilization! It's the only way to fix this!

Oh -- and we must raise taxes too!

If liberals think they're having a tough time selling global warming now, just wait a few years...

Then again they've already started pushing the 'we're running out of water and we're all gonna die" thing. That should be fun - another 20 years wasted having to debunk one more massive liberal elite scare story (lie).

What telescope's this fool been using? Has he removed the lens cover?

A Preliminary Study (why I can't see a damn thing)

Apply for grant to hire assistant, or damn thing one (Thing#1) to someday remove lens cap

Lessons for Writing a Liberal Climatologist's technical manual.

Apply for grant to hire confusing statistician (Thing #2), so now at least two things are visible to Chief Climatologist. A Senior Technician must be found who can properly adjust climate data while simultaneously helping Thing #1 remove said telescope lens cap.

Step One

Calmly, instruct Things #1 and #2 to write procedure manual on the proper method to remove telescope lens cover.

Apply for grant to acquire and equip climate lab with the latest mainframe high-speed computers and cameras to record what might happen should lens cover be successfully removed at some unspecified point in the research time-line. Said computer can also multi-task to make reservations, sexting and acquiring temporary hourly comely female handlers while attending climate conferences in hotspots around the globe. We must get our data from those 'hot zones' while our rugged team of scientists go 'around the world' with Europe's most erotic sex workers. Yee Pee, did you gals shave?

Should conference funding be difficult or slow in coming, appearances on Letterman, Leno and Comedy Central must be made to reach out and alert Charlie Sheen, Alex Jones and the American people.

We hardly need to hint at the emergence of a dark new theory beyond the frightening prospect of SPDS, or sudden puppy death syndrome. We were all warned that cute little birdies, puppies, goldfish and kittens would all die if we didn't schedule a paid Federal holiday to be called Earth Day on April 22nd each year. We were also forced to halt all use of DDT, so that malaria could continue to kill 50 million people annually. But, we must remember what Mr. Himmler used to say 'you've got to crack a few heads to make eggs' The SPDS theory was first published in 1964's Silent Spring by Professor (please shut-her up) Carson, Rachel.

Make non-specific threats and general hints about the new research being done by Things 1 and 2 without spilling the beans about the Climate Labs new theory about what we might discover once that lens caps removed.

Step Two

Before yelling out 'the sky is falling', prepare manuscript for publication outlining a new research concept; once we get the lens cap off, 'We're All Gonna Die Eventually theory'( WAGED Theory).

Embark upon a whirlwind ten year major media blitz of the WAGED Theory.

Apply for grants to attend worldwide conferences to explore WAGED Theory, dine on French Cuisine, stay at 5 star Hotels and rape hotel maids. Discover ideas to prevent, or delay dying with growing staff of 1500 research Things.

Obtain 25 Billion in emergency funding after appearing before another boring United States Congressional committee hearing to discuss the complete elimination and prevention of death by 2050. Ditto, appear before UN General Assembly in NYNY to discuss elimination of death worldwide by 2045, obtain 10 million dollars in funding from George Soros and the IMF for hush money, bribes, illegal drugs and hookers to work Climate Hotspots at conferences around the globe.

Step Four

Hide money is desk drawer, freezer, tool box and underware drawer. Bury money in backyard of Swiss villa while awaiting more emergency grant funding.

Apply for more grants, publish modifications of the WAGED Theory.

Step Five, collect Nobel Prize for Science. Tell audience once again about the more lurid and tasteless elements of the 'we're all gonna eventually die' theory.

Apply for grant monies

Obtain enough Rx medication to reach room tempurature should the media discover awful truth. WAGED Good night, good luck and Goodbye!

From Watts Up With that?:

BREAKING – major AAS solar announcement: Sun’s Fading Spots Signal Big Drop in Solar Activity

**********************************EXCERPT***********************************

Posted on June 14, 2011 by Anthony Watts

“If we are right, this could be the last solar maximum we’ll see for a few decades,” Hill said. “That would affect everything from space exploration to Earth’s climate.”

It looks like Livingston and Penn are getting some long deserved recognition. See their graph below:

Graph above from the WUWT solar reference page. Note: when the B gauss reading of sunspots hits 1500, they will no longer have enough contrast to be visible. That may occur at or near the years 2015-2017. WUWT carried a story in 2008 warning of this.

The American Astronomical Society meeting in Austin has just made a major announcement on the state of the sun. Sunspots may be on the way out and an extended solar minimum may be on the horizon.

Might as well post this here, too...

Here's a sunspot chart showing the various peaks and dips throughout the past centuries. Note the "Medieval Max". It corresponds to the "Medieval Warm Period". The "Maunder Minimum" corresponds to the "Little Ice Age", and the "Modern Max" to the recent warming trend we had been experiencing, at least until the past 15 years or so.

"Changes in carbon-14 concentration in the Earth's atmosphere, which serves as a long term proxy of solar activity. Note the present day is on the left-hand side of this figure."

Yes, it’ll most likely start getting noticeably colder in two or three years. But it won’t be like the Ice Age. Some of my early American ancestors lived during the Maunder Minimum in what is now New York, and then in Ohio. They did well with farming then.

But it’s probably going to get colder than most people above New Mexico want it to be. Meanwhile, fuel, including propane, will go sky high during the coming years. Real estate in the north will be hit by the new weather along with the economy and run of us Baby Boomers back into the ground.

Have fun. Enjoy the slide. ;-)
