According to what the government keeps telling us, "Hispanics may be of any race." Of course there aren't huge numbers who are Asian or Pacific Islanders (there are some--Alberto Fujimori was President of Peru in the 1990s).

I think historically Latin American immigrants were counted as Caucasian. Some are entirely of European ancestry, some are entirely of pre-Columbian indigenous ancestry, many are mixed European and native, some have African ancestry...all of which is pretty well known, particularly to anyone who watches Major League Baseball.

Mexican soap operas are popular in Europe--they seem to picture actors who are very European in appearance for them.

Some are, some aren’t. There are white, black, brown and red Hispanics, depending on ancestry of course. Descendents of Spaniards, slaves, Indians etc.

According to FNC this morning, the perp was born in Mexico but was an American citizen. I’d like to know if FNC verified that info, or if the net was taking someone’s word for it.

I’m trying to figure out how he got that AK47. If he was not a US citizen, wouldn’t that have raised red flags at the gun dealership when they ran a background check? How did he pass that check?

As someone pointed out to me on another thread, he could have bought it illegally through a friend or whatever.

As far as I know, mental illness would probably negate his ability to legally own a gun, let alone a fully automatic weapon.

At least we’ve dispatched the notion that any gun he would plausibly be possessing is required to be registered.

My thoughts and findings. I wondered where the important locations stood in relation to one another, and was able to find them in Google Maps based on news articles. The IHOP is on S Carson St. ( Rt. 50-395 ) at the corner of Eagle Station Ln, and is marked on Google Maps and visible in Google Street View. Sencion would have passed by it on his way from his reported “previous residence” at Jodi Lane, and his later residence on Truckee Drive nearby. On his way to work he would have followed Rt. 50 all the way to South Lake Tahoe, a drive of some miles, and turned up Pioneer Lane, coming to Mi Pueblo Market in just a few hundred yards. This is across the state line in CA, contrary to some news reports.

It’s noteworthy that the IHOP is near his places of residence. Its placement along his commute makes it plausible that he was not targeting the Guardsmen there, although it does leave the question why he chose to attack it, so it could even suggest that he gained some knowledge that they would be there, and was triggered by his familiarity with the place.

Those passingly familiar with him at the market in South Lake Tahoe have been quoted as saying he was of a kind and gentle demeanor. I think this could even be a spark if you consider that he may have felt “among his people” at this place and “in the enemy camp” in Carson City. Dunno.

I swear one news report said the gun belonged to his brother along with the car. Couldn’t find it again. These links are constantly shifting. There was a lot of strange stuff about his brother as local news people pressed the family. At one point he answered as “Eduardo Sencion” and then admitted it wasn’t him. Could he have been an important influence in these events? Dunno.

One other thing: there is a gun shop very near Mi Pueblo, which has remarkable customer reviews saying that the owner is very disagreeable and difficult, which discourages potential customers. Probably means nothing.
