According to the latest poll from Public Policy Polling, former House speaker Newt Gingrich holds just a one percentage point lead over Congressman Ron Paul among likely Republican voters. In a Republican presidential contest that to date has largely been defined by the range of dramatic pendulum swings, a new poll coming out of Iowa just three weeks before the Iowa caucus reflects the rise of the Libertarian-leaning former Texas Congressman Ron Paul, vaulting Paul to a statistical tie for first place with national frontrunner and former House speaker Newt Gingrich. The poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling, positioned Gingrich with 22 percent of the vote and Paul with 21 percent. Romney placed third with 16 percent, according to a report by the Daily Caller.

They like Paul because he will be the worst candidate to face Obama.

every poll I’ve seen in the last few years strongly suggests that Paul is way, way overrepresented when poll results finally get compared to reality.

I bet you're exactly right.

I’d have to go with Ron Paul, warts and all.

“How much are you willing to sacrifice for legalized drugs, Huck? All of America’s security?”

Characterizing Ron Paul supporters as a bunch of pot smokers is a tired canard.

Romney is the worst candidate to face Obama hands down. The libs know a lot of us will not vote for Romney if he gets the nomination.

Iowa has no open primaries. They’re a closed caucus.

There’s a possibility he’d hurt Zero more than our GOP candidate.

Paul thinks it’d be constitutional for states to ban guns too. He opposed the McDonald v Chicago decision. He doesn’t believe in incorporation of the Bill of Rights.

Well, open caucus then. It’s a system ripe with fraud. Sorry for the goof on my part.

Career Presidential candidate Ron Paul is a tired canard.

And yes, a large portion of his apostles support him because of his Drugs-for-everybody stance. This isn’t my first rodeo.

Although he does have the lion’s share of 9/11 Truthers, too..........

The libs and youth do not all like Obama, but do like Dr. Paul.

There are a lot of parallels between Paul's strength in Iowa and Barack Obama's in 2008- he's doing well with new voters, young voters, and non-Republican voters...with voters who identify as Democrats or independents, 21% of the electorate in a year with no action on the Democratic side, Paul leads Gingrich 34-14.
Public Policy Polling.

Do the kids in college register as republican for the first time just to skew this first vote. I was entirely incorrect on the actual requirements and stand corrected. Thank You.

Rubbed shoulders with them for three days at CPAC. Still can’t get the cannabis and patchouli smell out of my sport jacket...

Could be a major upset to Obama. If Paul went Indy could be embarrassing to Newt/Romney.

Every Democrat I know would praise Gaia if Ron Paul won the GOP nomination.

As the polls show consistently, he is their absolute #1 choice.

I still do not understand why he runs as a Republican.
