Scarborough: Conservative Leaders All Tell Me They Want Brokered Convention
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 01/20/2012 5:02:10 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

"I've been talking quietly to the most powerful, I think, conservative movers-and-shakers in Washington over the past couple weeks, trying to get their read. Are we really going down this path? Every single one I've spoken to is trying to figure out a way to get to a brokered convention."

That was Joe Scarborough on Morning Joe today. For good measure, Scarborough also stated as a simple fact that Sarah Palin wants a brokered convention.

Scarborough says he’s spoken to top conservatives and all want a brokered convention. He also states as fact that Sarah Palin wants a brokered convention. Your thoughts? Ping to Today show list.

*sigh*

*facepalm*

Does anyone really think that Joe Scarborough is a conservative or even in contact with party leaders?

Sarah Palin’s time came and went. Put her on the VP ticket if necessary, but a brokered convention would be nothing more than theater of the absurd.

Why are ‘top’ conservatives talking to Joe? Is this their trial balloon? I mean really now, who actually watches Joe? Why is it ‘top’ conservatives never learn and keep seeking the liberal media to carry their water. See now I think the ‘big’ deception is the usage of that word ‘conservatives’, because why else would Sarah Palin’s name be added separately?

I wonder who would come out as the nominee from a brokered convention.

This is bullshit.

A brokered convention is a fantasy. It is simply not possible. People who are saying they want a brokered convention are just stalling, waiting for something to happen. I would dare say that most are just waiting for Romney to sew things up, so they can be forced to accept what the wanted all along.

The only way to avoid Romney is to beat him in the primaries. Any fantasy of a brokered convention that distracts from that immediate goal just serves to seal the deal.

"Romney. Romney. Romney. Romney. Romney.(yada yada) ...
Ignore that Romney DEFIED the Mass Constitution and instituted
GAY MARRIAGE without authority.
Ignore that Romney INITIATED RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE.
Ignore that Romney covered up the BIG DIG.
Ignore that Romney RAN Mass into the ground."

MITT ROMNEY - THE PROVEN BAD GOVERNOR

"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.
* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.
In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

Since when do conservatives talk to Joe Scarborough? Or put another way, how low is the bar to define a conservative the way Scarborough does?

I think it’s more likely that the establishment Republicans are hankering for a brokered convention. Their man Mitt is losing his luster so now they’ve got Mitch Daniels warming up in the bullpen. They’ll do whatever it takes to maintain the status quo.

Right, the same Weakly Standard conservatives who wanted Christie, Jeb, Daniels, etc. once it became clear Myth can’t crack 30%. The only thing worse than Romney being the nominee would be if the party hacks were able to select some bloodless suit who didn’t have the drive to run for it in the first place.

The Republican Establishment's power brokers might want a brokered convention, but I would not make the mistake of calling them "top conservatives".

A brokered convention allows the "movers and shakers" to trade favors and would most likely anoint Mitt.

I had hopes for Herman Cain, but he folded after the first attacks. Big disappointment. The major difference between being a businessman and a conservative politician is that most businessmen do not have to get used to large segments of the population actively hating them, with a significant percentage wanting their deaths, and lots of people (paid and unpaid) digging through your present and past for anything that could be used to destroy you.

Say what you want about Newt not being perfect. One thing we do know about him is that he has survived many years of being the object of Leftist HATE, and is still a fighter. Also, I think that what they're throwing at him right now may be all they've got. If they had worse stuff on Newt's past, somebody would have dug it up and used it before.

The other candidates have not been subject to HATE on that level, and so are untested.
