Mitt Romney has tapped a longtime adviser to begin his search for a vice presidential candidate.

Romney said Monday that Beth Myers is in charge of "selection and vetting and analysis."

"I have selected someone who has been a counselor of mine for a number of years, Beth Myers. She was my chief of staff when I was governor," Romney said during an interview with Diane Sawyer of ABC News outside Fenway Park in Boston.

He really needs to pick the right person....I am ready to fire Obama, but a stellar VP choice would motivate folks.

Finding someone smarter than Biden and/or Hillary won't be difficult.

God help us. Even Bush knew who he wanted, without help.

His Chief of Staff while he was governor of Mass? Really? Oh well he is clearly not going to govern as a conservative so I won’t be voting for him anyway. Every sign that I see is that he will be as liberal if not worse as he was as Governor. I will be writing in Sarah Palin. There has been or will be nothing he can do to convince me to vote for him. Hopefully we can elect Sarah Palin in a write in. Romney will lose and lose badly against Obama. Polls are not accurate right now. Media will bash him the minute he is named. Go Newt our only hope in the primaries. If Newt does not win the primary then Sarah Palin our only hope in the General.

If it's another RINO gun banner he is wasting his effort.

Buying a life membership in the NRA doesn't clean up his rotten history.

No it won't. Screw Romney and the GOP-E he rode in on.

Gosh I can suggest the absolute best VP candidate, and I’ll do the job no charge.

In one step, Romney would with this selection ease the concerns of FReepers, he would bring into his camp the Tea Party, and set the stage for an electoral wipeout of historic proportion in November.

Romney really, really should nominate Sarah Palin.

Newt or Santorum...You need a conservative.

Palin......she found out that she's not as loved as she thought and exited...so please be real. Don't flame me...it's just a reality check.

I think Palin as VP would be a waste of her talents.

Better to combine departments of Energy, Interior and EPA into one smaller Department and put Palin in charge of it.

Then as VP choose another Conservative. Anybody would be better than Biden or Hillary.

If Mitt does that, I'll think about supporting him.

Listen to this bastard, arrogantly assuming he is the Republican nominee. You know he's been told this by the powers that be, or he wouldn't talk this way.

Watch him pick some lib-ass-kissing RINO like Lindsey Graham as VP.

VP is more important than a secon-tier cabinet position and there’s a history of VP’s taking on a special area or portfolio of focus.

As VP she could oversee broad changes in energy policy AND genuine cross-government cost cutting, for example.

Unfortunately, Romney would never pick her.

Lol.

You’re funny. Shortly before she decided not to run, I watched an hour of the most remarkable political coverage I’ve seen in all my life.

At Indianola, Iowa, following an appearance by Palin - there was a greeting line. Somehow CSPAN concluded (correctly) they were seeing something special, and they did not end the broadcast once the formal event had ended. No panning away, fade to black.

They broadcast it at first, almost as an afterthought at first.

Best television ever, it was amazing. It was the Tea Party people, and they were absolutely smitten.

Young and old. Palin beamed, and her supporters were just plain thrilled; for almost a solid hour, she shook hands, as she made her way along the line, while smiling for photos, signing t-shirts, everyone genuinely over the top about her. Todd the doting husband, standing by and keeping an eye on things. Security watching the crowd, while everyone just kept expressing support.

I’ve never before, or since, seen anything like it.

No. No flame from this poster.

You’re just wrong.

Palin is the most gifted Republican politician in America, since Ronald Reagan.

She would be a powerful asset to Romney, to the GOP and for America.

I love Sarah. She was my first 2012 candidate. Romney needs a Federal legislator as his VP choice. Rubio and Ryan and Cantor come to mind. Bachmann works very well for me also.

Thomas Dewey lives. Find another Earl Warren to join the ticket and history will indeed repeat itself.

Combining those departments is an excellent idea and Palin would be a great choice to run it.

I was thinking along those lines myself. Note how no polling has been done since he has been “deemed” to have won the primary.

What the heck is a “presumptive nominee?” It sounds so official——like Office of the President-Elect. I’m surprised Romney hasn’t made up a Presumptive Nominee Seal for his podium.

Cheney lead Bush’s VP search and did a great job of finding Bush’s VP.

Actually you can’t trust any of the Virginia crowd. They’re so far into the tank for Romney they can no longer differentiate between right and wrong.

Yeah, what a damn shame GWB didn’t consider being the VP on the ticket and let Dick Cheney run for President. If ever there were the wrong person at the top of the ticket, it was in 2000 & 2004.

No, sorry. There is no VP pick that would motivate me to vote for him. He is Obama-Lite. He has a record to prove he is pro gay, pro abortion, pro taxes, anti gun ... on and on. He is “central moderate” ... meaning he a socialist leaning right in hopes of getting my vote. You don’t have to do much research to find out who he is. To vote for “the Republican version of liberalism” is to vote for what we do not believe in. I played the game once voting for McCain ... Won’t happen again. Don’t give me a TOKEN conservative VP. I’m not buying. I’m 70 years old and have voted in every election in my lifetime... But this country is lost and I won’t vote FOR sealing its fate.
