Throughout his presidency, Barack Obama hasn't exactly been a friend to marijuana users.
Sure, he has acknowledged smoking pot as a young man, but he has disappointed marijuana advocates by opposing its legalization, regulation and taxation like alcohol.
And the Justice Department's occasional crackdown under his administration on medical marijuana dispensaries, which 17 states and the District of Columbia allow, has angered others.
So now, with Obama facing a stiff challenge from Republican Mitt Romney in the November 6 election, it's ironic that his chances of winning the key state of Colorado could hinge on marijuana legalization, supported by a growing number of Americans.

Stoners of the world untie...
So now it’s down to can we get the stoners out of their parents basements to ensure our entitlements and make sure their parents never retire.
Quite a statement about the nature of the Libtard invasion of a once conservative state.
I saw on the Denver news that 1 of 43 denver residents have mmj permits and there are more mmj outlits than Starbucks coffee in Denver.
Hope they wake up before Denver is destroyed like LA.
Doesn't matter. Most smokers are liberals and he knows he can count on them just like environmentalists, anarchists, criminals, illegals, pedophiles, gangstas, socialists, communists, entertainers, government workers, teachers, academics, students and various groups on the fringe of society.
You guys really have no idea who smokes pot or why, do you?
You surprised?
In one way no. I generally am more surprised when conservatives do not have a reasoned thought process, before they make a statement.
All the dope smokers I know are deadbeats. I’m sure the secret dope-smokers are CEO’s but since they are secret, how do we know?
Funny thing happened while I was in Co last week.
Stopped to eat at a restaurant, and there was a hydroponics store next to it. Being interested, I went in to talk to the guy.
One of the things he said, in a VERY roundabout way, was that this method wouldn’t work for growing marijuana.
I laughed when I figured out what he was getting at.
“I’m just trying to grow food indoors... but that might be illegal as well someday.”
The war on pot is a pointless waste of taxpayer money.
It’s absurd that the government tells us “it’s ok to use beer and cigarettes but if you smoke a plant that people have been smoking since 4000BC we will put you in jail.”
At least our country is so abundantly wealthy and debt free that we don’t need to worry about new streams of revenue. Far better to let that money go, untaxed, into the hands of Mexican cartels, right? /sarc
Agreed. I support legalization of this plant only so far as the user does not infringe on others liberty; but we already have a host of laws on the books to compensate for that minus the “war on drugs”.

I would say that the Issue I have with the war on drugs is that it has become a war on people’s rights in the name of “saving people from themselves”. That and it is a “federaly undeclared war against the citizens of the united states” by it’s definition. A war that they haven’t even actually constitutionally declared much like the disasterous war on poverty has been.
It is very much draconian in how it acts against the people in much the same way the progressive era prohibition was. Now if the states themselves want to prohibit a substance they should be free to and we have “dry counties and semi-dry states” today. But to play nanny to these people using the “Opressive hand of the federal governemnt” is even worse than a big city mayor outlawing large sodas.
Actually I think legalaized pot would be a good thing for the Republic as all the dopers would volutarily take themselves out of the voting process as a happy pot doper would be far less inclined to get off their doritoes eating rear end every other 1st Tuesday in November and vote for their welfare enablers.
All the cannabis smokers I know are happy, healthy, gainfully employed, self sufficient and athletic. I even know one that built a company in his fathers garage and then sold it 10 years later for 90 Million.
I personally have been using cannabis for a little over a year to combat rheumatoid arthritis. It has allowed me to develop a rigorous exercise program and lose 50 pounds. The arthritis is almost nonexistent now, and cannabis is virtually harmless compared to the meds I used to be on that were eating holes in my stomach and killing my liver. I'm in the best condition I've been in for over 20 years. I'm also employed and carry almost no debt.
I'm sure you consider yourself a conservative when you are in fact an authoritarian. The war on cannabis is a sham of epic proportions and you should better educate yourself in regards to the harm its causing our country and individual liberties.
I see bars full of people who aren’t derelicts. But I don’t know any dope smokers that aren’t deadbeats.
Coincidence? I don’t think so. Dope smokers are usually a lethargic lot except when they are shooting places up.
What places have potheads been shooting up?
I’ve given very serious thought about legalization the last few years. A friend suggested I read Theodore Dalrymple’s article against it. I did and found it very convincing. It’s worth a look - see link. This Dalrymple is a thinker and writer of the very top chop. And his prose is on par with H.L. Mencken’s who was the greatest prose writer and stylist of all time. I’ve since purchased a half dozen of Dalrymple’s books. They put me in mind of Thomas Sowell, Mencken, and the great Dr. Johnson.
