The real Noah’s Ark?

by Dominic Statham

Dr Irving Finkel’s new book in which he claims to have found the original Flood story. Dr Irving Finkel is an Assyriologist at the British Museum in London and an expert in ancient cuneiform scripts. In recent months he has become something of a celebrity, following the publication of his book, The Ark Before Noah: Decoding the Story of the Flood,1 and the Channel 4 documentary, The Real Noah’s Ark.2 The source of this media hype is his recent translation of a small Babylonian tablet, named the Ark Tablet. It is about the size of a mobile phone and has been dated to around 1750 BC.

The real difference in Finkel’s design is that the laces are out.

Clearly a fake. Among the missing details are the holes in the roof for the giraffes!

Didn't Noah originally build two arks?

The example does not look too well designed. It has a lot of extra wood in the floor which would make it heavier than regular construction.

The Bible says that there were Giants in the land and after. These giants would eat a lot and some other sources say that there were large ships to ship grain. It seems like there should ruins of many large ships.

Finkel’s design...

It isn't his design. It's Babylonian. No reason to shoot the messenger.

>>The “Genesis-designed ark” is sea-worthy...

1. Yes, there was a flood. It is the most often told story in the mythologies and religious liturgies of all ancient peoples.

2. No, the ark was not sea worthy. Nor could it have housed and fed two of every species we see on Earth today for 40 days. I simply can’t use the same logic I use to balance the family budget and drive down the freeway safely and conclude otherwise. There is rigorous thought. There is fantasist thought.
