Inexperienced green officer vs experienced combat soldier.

Had I been that officer, given the time available, I would have gotten in my patrol car, backed out and gotten out of range.

Or as someone else said, followed the guy to the car, weapon ready and stopped him before he had the chance to raise the rifle.

Either way, it is a shame that young officer did not have sufficient training.

Possibly but the officer was definitely not willing to kill another individual and suffered the ultimate consequence.

As far as the "experienced combat soldier", there was nothing in his actions that showed me he was a combat soldier. Every action he did was nothing more than what a crazy individual would have done if they had an unloaded M-1 carbine in their truck and an inexperienced LEO trying to detain him when such LEO had every opportunity to shoot the SOB..............
