WHEREAS Gov. Bruce Rauner issued a sweeping executive order Monday "respecting state employees' freedom of speech," and
WHEREAS this order began with 26 "Whereas ..." paragraphs, many of which mistily invoked the violated rights of public sector workers who are now "forced against their will" to fund "activities to which they object," and
WHEREAS our patience for hand-waving, smoke screens and general rhetorical folderol is limited ...
THEREFORE let's cut the rubbish.
Rauner's order isn't animated by empathy or some fastidious concern with constitutional fine points. It's animated by a desire to put public employee unions into a death spiral, which will ultimately shrink the state's payroll.
The Democrat-controlled General Assembly won't go along with him — and may be able to delay or block the effort. But, in my reading of a recent decision, the U.S. Supreme Court is likely to greenlight it.

He is probably the best we could have hoped for from Illinois - RINO or not - so let’s be happy to get this. No Democrat would do this. It’s a great first step toward curbing the union thugs.

I do agree with your statement though that he is the best IL could hope for. But that is more telling about IL and its political soul.
And yes I am ripping on IL, but I also realize that any state can or will fall like IL, no matter how conservative. The disease just spreads and knows no boundaries.
