The problem with Cruz is that he comes off as scripted at times (even though I know he’s not)- like televangelist. That works well for some, but for the general electorate, it’s a put-off.
That said, I’d vote for him in heartbeat.
You are an astute observer.
I hear that criticism sometimes and I just don’t get it. I don’t think he comes off as scripted at all. Fiorina is an example of a candidate who sounds programmed, scripted and memorized to me. Cruz spoke for hours in his filibuster of Obamacare. He wasn’t working off a script. Everyone says in his appearances he doesn’t use notecards or teleprompters. He speaks extemporaneously.
I don’t know if people just don’t understand the words he’s using because they’re too big or his ideas are too complex and people translate that as thinking he’s “preaching” or talking down to them.

Same here.
My husband thought the same thing - that he was scripted. I told hum i thought Cruz was just so smart and thinks so quick on his feet that he knows what he wants to say and is eloquent enough to say it clearly and coherently. So it might sound scripted even though it isn’t.
