Nuts. I feel so old. Listened to his music in high school.

I see lots of comments that the former artist known as Prince was a “great” guitar player. That’s all relative. Compared to great “great” guitar players Prince is nominal, and he’d be the first to admit it when finding himself in the company of an actual great guitar player like Tommy Emmanuel or Fapy Lafertin.

Wolf is getting confused with Jimi Hendrix and Prince. And confused Purple Haze with Purple Rain.

He was a pretty talented musician and singer.

Yes, that he was! I also remember reading somewhere, that he was also a pretty good athlete in high school. I think basketball.

That’s kind of odd.

Same age.
Same year.

“Not because he is dead but because so many take it so seriously.”

Yeah, ‘cuz even the slightest twinge of sadness at the passing of notable people is just so gauche i wanna puke. They got all they deserved and more over the years because of their celebrity and so deserve nothing from us once they’ve checked out. No sense being sad when some famous person croaks; whatever you liked about them dies with them, so just skip all the emotionalism and get on down the road toward your own unheralded demise. Tempus fugit, yaknow; no time for humanity.

Said the utterly friendless, nocturnal introvert from the dark confines of their senile Mother’s basement.

Sad news indeed. RIP.

Guess I’ll go home, pour myself a drink, raise a toast, pop Purple Rain into the VCR, watch it again, and see if it makes any damned sense THIS time.

People on our side of the aisle love to just s*it on stuff like this because they think it is standing up for “American values”, but will feel sad when some old alcoholic country music singer from the 60s kicks the bucket.

Haven't you heard? Country musicians are born "saved." They all go to Heaven! [/sarcasm]

Hate and envy are self-destructive emotions. I’ve been with the Free Rebublic a long time and your posts on this thread are among the nastiest and hateful I’ve ever seen. I hope that you can free yourself of your inner torment.

Prince was a bit of an odd duck but he never hurt anybody. It was his right as an American to live the way that he did. I take no pleasure in his passing. He was quite young for the times. 57 is the prime of one’s life these days. He was obviously a musical genius and his music will live on for those who appreciated it.

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - Tom Petty, Dhani Harrison (George's son), Prince, Steve Winwood, et al

An interviewer asked Clapton once, "How does it feel to be the greatest guitar player in the world?"

"I don't know," Clapton replied, "Ask Prince."
