President-elect Donald Trumps policies on illegal immigration, particularly on the border wall and cracking down on sanctuary cities, were at the center of his election campaign. Now, advocates of immigration restriction are hoping for reform to H-1B visas that they say are hurting American workers.
The H-1B is a temporary, non-immigrant visa, currently capped at 85,000 visas a year, that allows employers to hire skilled, specialty workers on a temporary basis -- particularly scientists, engineers, or computer programmers.
However, critics say that the system is rife with abuse, and is no longer a limited short-term program to help employers with unexpected labor shortages in niche areas, and has instead become a way to push out American workers in favor of cheap foreign labor.
Because of lobbying by the Chamber of Commerce and big tech companies, theyve succeeded in loosening standards and weve seen the increasingly common scenario where American workers are fired, and have to train their replacements, Dan Stein, President of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, told FoxNews.com.

My native language is German, and when my husband brought me to the states in 1966 I was already able to read, speak, and write in English. We married in 1962 and I had plenty of time to practice. Also he had me answer the letters his mother wrote.
This is awesome, thanks for the link

There’s no reason for the H1-B program anymore.
We said no, but offered $1,000 to assist the employee intern.
Ultimately the attorney wrote us and told us the young engineer needed to prove he was in high demand and that required a minimum salary of 25% above what we were willing to pay. We provided a trade association salary survey to show what market price was. The immigration attorney told us that salary level was not acceptable and he must advise his client to seek employment elsewhere. We told the employee we couldn't pay such outrageous salaries.
My experience is that this kind of Visa is a racket for attorneys and some software companies.
I have no problem with shutting it down.
Google “Flanagan protest concord”.
Wow! I’m surprised you didn’t cut that loose as soon as you were “demanded” to pay the visa fees. You dodged a bullet on that one. After hire, the “demands” would have increased.
The O-1 visa still exists for top talent. The snowflake tech employers would have to go through a rigorous process to justify this visa.
It’s easier for these snowflake tech employers to process and H1-B, which gives them cheap indentured slave labor.
thanks for the clarification. I will be watching the news on this one.
