YEONGCHANG, South Korea—Team USA brought the largest-ever squad to a Winter Olympics: 242 athletes decked out in stars and stripes and suede-fringe gloves, strutting into the Opening Ceremony.
So far that big, bold team is doing a faceplant.

Undoubtedly. I have read accounts from several Olympics that sound like Procopius’s lurid tales of Roman orgies. I suspect it has been like that since the beginning. Fit young people who have been living like warrior monks for four years will do things like that when they get a chance to blow off some steam.
Yes, what’s up with that . What does homosexuality have to do with the Olympics? And what’s with the media fawning over Kim Jong Un’s sister? And praise for the North Korean cheerleaders???
And then to listen to nonsense such as Katie Couric saying how the Dutch ice skate everywhere on the frozen canals, and that’s why they are such good skaters — it’s just not worth spending time watching.

How long before some male-bodied person wants to compete against the female-bodied people?

Beijing will be the answer to the trivia question : which city will have hosted both winter and summer olympics.
I thought due to global warming the Dutch all three their skates away.
We are apparently in a cultural shift that started (imo) with asshole kapernick and progressing up through the extinguishing of the NFL flame of popularity in Americans.
I think our showing in the olympics and interest level are all indicative of a greater cause to our existence than just being the best (at anything)
America wants to be right and America wants to be good.
We are not complicated if we're allowed to evolve on our own.
Look what Americans have done in a mere two hundred years compared to other nations.

At my age (67), I do plenty of catching big air at home.
The VP and Trump trashers haven’t done so well. There’s a lot to be said for keeping politics out of sports (NFL, Olympics) ‘entertainment’ (Dixie Chicks, various activist movie stars, singers) & other areas (FBI, DOJ), etc. The nasty, Leftist version of political intrusion appears to be particularly destructive to those who insist on cramming it down the throats of everyone else.

The term ‘American Pride’ can mean something quite different for today’s ‘snowflakes’ than of yesteryears past defining patriotism.
As long as our big team “looks like America” with the proper ratio of special interest groups, that’s more important than winning. They can feel good about themselves above all else.
After all the politicization, like Lindsey Vonn’s comments, what little interest I had evaporated. Though I am rooting for her to go home without a medal.
