"Do you know the rules of punctuation, grammar, and syntax, i.e. the King's English---the correct use of quotation marks, when to use a semi-colon instead of a comma, the rules of capitalization, etc. ? "

Judging by the posts on this forum, I'd sadly have to say that most Freepers would fail this portion of the test.

As for myself - even though I left high school in the early 70s, and spent half my school years in superior military-run schools, I'd probably only manage a weak passing grade on the whole thing.

“You may be bored, but your post is NOT 1) funny 2) clever 3) educated 4) with the time it took to read.”

OK. OK. Point taken. I’d ask for a pardon but then I saw your name.

Minorities had no problems learning these things. Why do they have problems with them now ?

One major reason because they KNOW they will be passed no matter what.

The other is the same thing that affects non-minorities not to learn it. A well rounded home with both parents showing an interest in the child learning.

Boy, you just outed how completely stupid you are!

Can Your Kid Answer These Questions?

Compare this to the 1895 High School test that floats around the Internet.

At one time students had to provide the answer rather than select an answer from a list.

At one time teachers had to read the answers the students’ provided.

" the dates in history are irrelevant"

~~~~~~~~~
Just as irrelevant as Time, itself... </SARCASM*gt;
(Time = (paraphrasing Hawking) "...that which keeps everything from happening at once...")
~~~~~~~~~

Dear lady, your posts generally reflect knowledge and wisdom. Whence, then, did the above idiocy come?

How is it that you are assured that your mother was not born before her great-grandfather?

How do you know that the quotation, "...a date that shall live in infamy..." was not first applied to the election of Barack Hussein 0bama?

~~~~~~~~~
Do you think you might want to revise your overstated disdain for factual knowledge a wee bit? '-}
Who is Charlemagne and why is he important? On which day was he crowned the first Holy Roman Emperor and what was the name of the crown?
And it's child abuse because I don't care what year that happened in?
The name of his CROWN? Really?
That's about as irrelevant as knowing the name of Dwight Moody's song leader.
Hell I can’t name most of them. Some I used to be able to but I haven’t done a geometric proof in over 30 years and don’t plan to start again. Really they’re mostly useless information, unless you play Trivial Pursuit professionally. Ides of March is my anniversary though (yes on purpose), I can’t forget that one.
You know, if I really want to know that stuff in history, then I can look it up, but honestly, it does not affect my day to day living very much.
I think it is more important to know what happened and WHY as opposed to just memorizing names, dates, and places.
Being able to spew back facts does not equal a quality education. Being able to think does.
