As the Left goes extreme, millennials find themselves agreeing with the Right
Washington Examiner ^ | 6/29/18 | Logan Hall

When Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., gave a speech at a rally against government immigration policy, her message was clear: If you see anyone who’s recognizably affiliated with the Trump administration conducting their private affairs in public, they must be exiled and excised from public life.

This display of hatred, paired with other recent demonstrations by the radical Left, shows a big problem for Democrats: They are alienating portions of their base, pushing many center-left voters to the right.

The Democratic shift towards extremism is well-documented. Unsurprisingly, the Left’s growing radicalism has taken over the Democratic Party. The malicious parts of their base have driven many left-leaning voters into the arms of the GOP. This is because the center of the Republican Right has only moved a little in the same amount of time it took for the Democratic center to move so far to the left.

It makes sense.

Just as the millennials are getting their first jobs since the Odinga-manufactured depression, now the communists want them to share their hard-earned money with the non-productive.

I wonder if this sort of thing happened in the late 70’s. Former hippies who now found themselves with jobs and families saw how Carter’s weakness and Lefty feel-goodism wasn’t going to work and saw an optimistic vision in Reagan. At least some of them outside of the seventh circle of Haight-Ashbury did....

Well, of course many of the young people want better paying jobs and freedoms!

They don’t want to be homeless and treated like garbage. And they’ve had more than enough of the crazy talk from crazy public school teachers and the socialist political/regulator class people lording it over them!

We boomers are about to croak, and young people have had it with being walked on by Hillary’s mob. President Trump is enriching the new generation, so they can make America great again!

Yes, I see your point.

Speaking for myself anyway, didn't a lot of us have more liberal/moderate views in our youth? As time passes and we gain more experience in life our views tend to slide a bit more to the right. As government takes more of your hard earned you start to question where it is being spent and THAT for me was what made me question more and more the wisdom of big government and the need for expanding social welfare programs. It goes along with maturity and you can't expect a magical transformation.

We are a big tent and getting bigger the longer the extreme left is howling at the moon. Having an infusion of youth isn't a bad thing IMO.

Yes, the hardcore militant left does appear to be happy to dig in deeper, then find ways to be even more radical in their ideology.

I figure around 20% of the left is like this. Probably always has been. The more rabidly radical they get; the more they push the other 80% to the right until they start to get red-pilled and decide the right is making more sense and offers a better future for them and their children.

The old timer radicals won't ever change though. I've tried. They are just too set in their ways. You can prove to them the sky is blue a bunch of different ways and why it is so but they will still insist it's green in their eyes.

Goes to show that once you are in the real world, your views begin to change.

What counts at an election is how many get out and vote. The polls do not predict that!
Get the normal people out to vote, and we win.

I tried to wake up one young lefty and finally told him that socialism has never worked anywhere it has been tried and there is no way that it ever can work. His reply was amazing, in a very righteous tone he said, “I DON’T CARE WHETHER IT WORKS OR NOT.”

Was thinking closer to home with my own parents. Just read David Horowitz's wiki page. The 'Writing for the Right' section outlines his conversion. I hope we're seeing that again.

His book Radical Son is worth reading - about his conversion to conservatism. His parents were commies.
