Another strong late season gulf storm. Getting to be quite the annual trend.

My brother had to kill a golf trip to Mrytle thanks to Florence, now he and buddies are up there and having to cut it short to get back home to Ft. Walton to batten down.

Meanwhile up here in Central Bama we are finally looking forward to a break in temps later this week. Spent all Columbus Day weekend swimming with grand kids. Temps in the low 90's all the way through Oct 8 is even almost unheard of here in Hot Humid Summer hell.

Actually, as weird as it may seem, Ft. Walton Beach is in Okaloosa County not Walton County.

Thanks, for correcting my error. I live in central FL and I am on standby to deploy as a shelter ham radio operator. Making sure my batteries are all charged up and bags packed in case they call.

Tough storm season for your brother. Reminds me of 2004 here in FL, when the windows were boarded most of the summer. Looked like a crack house. Invested in hurricane screens after that year, and learned to keep travel plans very flexible Aug.-Oct.

Hopefully you won't be needed, but that is a wonderful service!

Currently watching the FEMA trucks streaming into the staging area they have here. Good to see the lessons from Katrina being applied the last few years here. Semis full of goods and equipment, and power trucks are all rolling in and parking.

My brother did a refit after Ivan and had the motorized storm shutters installed over all his windows.

One press of a button and his house turns into Fort Knox. LOL

I’ve explained that to no avail.

"I’ve explained that to no avail."

At least impress upon them to bring cash as credit card machines and ATMs will not be working.

Hope the folks running assisted living/skilled nursing facilities in the evacuation areas have their acts together.

And Santa Rosa Beach isn’t in Santa Rosa County as well. Ft. Walton Beach had no fort, nor does it have a beach.

Hopefully, the deadly nursing home debacle in Miami-Dade during Irma will never be repeated.

While going to school/stationed at Fort Rucker, we spent our days off in Destin, Ft. Walton Beach and PCB. Good people. Great memories. Good luck to all.

Michael will influence the Tampa Bay tide levels. It may be too far offshore, however, to empty the bay as Irma did last year.

Yep. Like everyone else, too, we’re always glad when it goes somewhere else. :-/ I hate it for ‘em, though.
