As scientists, we are compelled to write to you, our elected representatives, about the current administrations proposal to legally define gender as a binary condition determined at birth, based on genitalia, and with plans to clarify disputes using genetic testing. This proposal is fundamentally inconsistent not only with science, but also with ethical practices, human rights, and basic dignity.
The proposal is in no way grounded in science as the administration claims. The relationship between sex chromosomes, genitalia, and gender identity is complex, and not fully understood. There are no genetic tests that can unambiguously determine gender, or even sex. Furthermore, even if such tests existed, it would be unconscionable to use the pretext of science to enact policies that overrule the lived experience of peoples own gender identities.
Bottom line: Even if there are genes that determine sex we should still go by how people feel.
Social scientists maybe, but not physical scientists.
Narrow the definition of gender? you mean narrow it down to “male” and “female”? Any four year old kid playing “doctor” can do that!
He’s not narrowing the definition. He’s reminding people of what the definition IS, by nature, and something that cannot be changed.
These are the same bastards who stayed up all night searching for the “gay gene.” Their plan was to claim that gay is 100% natural.
Faced with the reality that there is a man gene, and a woman gene, they trash the idea of genes.
I am guessing since the are “scientist” they have heard of DNA?
Liberals, not scientists.
0.016% of all scientists agree.
WOW! it MUST BE true then! /s
No matter what these democrats want, there are but 2 genders, male and female! That is the way it is. Sorry!
