As scientists, we are compelled to write to you, our elected representatives, about the current administration’s proposal to legally define gender as a binary condition determined at birth, based on genitalia, and with plans to clarify disputes using “genetic testing”. This proposal is fundamentally inconsistent not only with science, but also with ethical practices, human rights, and basic dignity.
The proposal is in no way “grounded in science” as the administration claims. The relationship between sex chromosomes, genitalia, and gender identity is complex, and not fully understood. There are no genetic tests that can unambiguously determine gender, or even sex. Furthermore, even if such tests existed, it would be unconscionable to use the pretext of science to enact policies that overrule the lived experience of people’s own gender identities.
Bottom line: Even if there are genes that determine sex we should still go by how people feel.
Probably the same scientists declaring for the third time we only have ten more years to address global warming.
What sort of scientists are these? All sorts of people call themselves scientists these days - psychologists and the like are not scientists, however.
When did women’s studies make the STEM list? Time to decertify some universities, e.g., UC Mexifornia.
I ran through the list of signatories. Only about 40% are biologists. Half of them are sociologists, chemists, physicists, anthropologists, or some other non-biological related field. About a fifth are PhD candidates and students.
I saw one who is a chemical engineer and another who is a therapist. So yea, they scraped the barrel.
Mental stability is on a spectrum. These so-called scientists are not in its center.
And all should have their government grants or employment checked. If government employee, fired.

“I think, therefore I am” has now become “I think I am a man, therefore I am a man.”
Most transgenders today are girls wanting to be men. Ages 16 to 24. An increase of 4,500% in the last ten years. Some liken it to anorexia in it’s social contagion aspect (spread through the media, internet and peers).
It is probably rooted in the mind the same way that anorexia is. There are numerous places that will treat both the mind and body of the anorexic.
Hard to find a therapist that doesn’t just want to put the transgender leaning kid on hormones and then surgery. It is a mind problem - not a body problem.
And it really is - “I think I’m a man” and the clinic will tell them “Oh - you think you are a man? Okay, well then you need to get on hormones, and then after that you can do surgery.”
In one report, something like 240 people that “detransitioned” were interviewed. Something like 60 of them said they were never questioned or given therapy of any kind. Just got the prescription for hormones on the first visit!
It is nuts. The are destroying our kids. (40% of transgenders try to kill themselves after the transition. Some of their stories are so tragic. “I thought it would make me who I really was. Now I realize that I am nothing.”)
And it destroys the families. Which is probably the goal in the first place.
Keep that list of names. It might come in useful someday to know who they are.

If it has a penis, it’s male
If it has a vagina it’s female
If it has both penis and vagina, it can flip a coin and cut one off.
If it has a penis but thinks it’s a female, it has a mental issue, and vice Versa for a female thinking it’s a man. They need mental help.
You are now on a list of scientists the American taxpayers will no longer support with any financing. We only want the best, and you have proven you are not it....or even remotely close to being it since you still can’t tell the difference.

This really shakes up the fundaments of science. It’s no longer based on what something is physically, it’s based on what you think it is. The possibilities are endless. Imagine what can be accomplished by just thinking it is so. It’s the exciting new world of science fiction.
