House Democrats Change Rules to Make It Easier to Raise Taxes
Washington Free Beacon ^ | 12/12/2018 | Haris Alic

The incoming chairman of the House Rules Committee, Rep. Jim McGovern (D., Mass.), confirmed to colleagues on Wednesday that he would not honor the three-fifths supermajority requirement to raise income taxes, as reported by the Washington Post.

The change comes after a standoff between Pelosi and her moderate allies in the Democratic conference, such as incoming Ways and Means Committee chairman Richard Neal (Mass.), and younger, more progressive members like Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.).

In November Pelosi and Neal initially proposed keeping the three-fifths supermajority rule for income tax increases "on the lowest-earning 80 percent of taxpayers." That notion, however, met stern opposition from Ocasio-Cortez and other progressives because it would severely constrain the ability of House Democrats to find new revenue sources to fund measures like universal health care and free college tuition.

A number of progressive organizations that had been strong allies of Pelosi and the Democratic leadership broke ranks on the issue and sided with the progressive politicians.

Republicans should drop it. Once democrats return to majority they WILL eliminate the 60 vote threshold and the filibuster.

Rule of law means nothing to the Left. There is one set of laws for them another set of laws for everyone else.

Only Democrats are truly equal.

Can someone tell this moron that someone has to pay for “free” college tuition.

They’ll simply bury tax increases in must sign legislation.

Except President Trump is showing them there is *no* must sign legislation.

He is willing to shut down the government to save the country.

Funding free programs is fun... until you run out of other people’s money.

Look at France.

Democrat agenda will die in the Senate.

This is all kabuki theater for the 2020 elections.

And what good would it have done? Most of the democrat base no longer care about taxes because they don’t pay them. The blue state suburbanite types repeatedly march lockstep to vote democrat only to see their taxes raised, so they clearly don’t care. And if they do, they relied on the SALT deduction to lie themselves into thinking that they aren’t paying that much.

”… would not honor the three-fifths supermajority requirement to raise income taxes,"
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

Patriots are reminded that a simple majority vote is not enough to raise taxes if Congress cannot justify appropriations under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.

A previous generation of state sovereignty-respecting Supreme Court justices had put it this way about Congress’s constitutionally limited power to raise revenue.

Also, off topic, patriots are encouraged to watch Dan Bongino’s excellent 37 min video (associated book). The video helps to flesh out the alleged Mueller conspiracy against Pres. Trump.

The Democrats in the Senate ended the filibuster to get their Supreme Court nominees through. That didn’t work out well for them. I suspect the same is going to happen here. If Republicans regain control, it will mean they can more easily low taxes and pass financial measures.

This fits in the category of “Be Careful What You Wish For”.

What is the critical mass tipping point where tax payers will stop producing or at least push the economy underground?

That seems to be the quest the government is on.

To all the America-hating @$$holes who gave the House back to Nancy’s Nazis, elections and stupidity do have consequences. Combining the two is deadly and dumb.

When Dems get both Houses and the Presidency ... Not only will taxes on the 80% go through the roof and into the stratosphere, but single payer health insurance will become law (all other forms of health insurance become illegal).

At that point, the US either revolts no holds barred, or its time to move on to another realm or Costa Rica - whichever comes first.

I want to know why she and others like her who haven’t even taken an oath to serve in Congress yet have any say in anything taking place in DC now. It doesn’t seem kosher. Otherwise, why not just seat them without any oath.. They aren’t going to abide by their oaths anyway so why do we go through this dog and pony show? Most of us gave up games many years ago but no one in DC got the message.
