Reminder: No profanity, no racism, no personal attacks, no threats, no violence, etc.
by Jim Robinson

Posted on 12/18/2018 2:11:53 PM PST by Jim Robinson

Some of this is starting to creep into our forum again, hence the reminder.

Debate the issues all you want, but please don't make it personal. Keep it clean, above board and above belt.

Also, whether pro or con, keep the q stuff off our regular forum threads. Post it on the q thread in chat/conspiracy. But again, keep it clean, don't make it personal, no name calling, no attacks, no threats, no violence.

Don't be a TROLL. Stay on topic, don't flame, don't engage in flamewars, feuds, cross-thread arguments, stalking or harassment.

If you don't like the subject or topic of the thread to the point you become abusive or trollish, stay off it.

The rules also apply to FReepmail. Do not send profane, insulting, threatening, harassing or otherwise unwanted or abusive messages.

If someone says stop, stop.

Do not harass or pester the mods.

Thanks

Not on the internet, that’s for sure. Patriots in earlier times met up at places like the Green Dragon Tavern.

Your sentiments are shared by many of us. After the Dems' series of self-destructive antics over the past year I felt sure no sane Americans (especially independent voters) would give them a majority in the House of Reps. After the BLM anti-police protests, Antifa violence, bashing ICE and Borders, the bizarre SCOTUS insanity with Judge Kavanaugh, the sudden spike in White Privilege fantasies, the public embrace of the "Democratic Socialist" label, the push for men in HS girls' bathrooms, in beauty pageants and on women's sports teams I thought - "OK, there's no way these nuts can win." Yet here we are, thanks to even MORE corruption - vote harvesting.

I plan to get active with Truth The Vote, the election-monitoring national organization.... my last stand against chaos. A bright point of light -- the California students leaving my college economics classes say they are now supporters of Capitalism when they "thought" they supported Socialism, before taking the class. We've got to keep talking, no matter how bleak things seem now.... :)

As far as campaigns I put our military first and you get a second. Found you and lurked when you first started. Got kicked off on Lucienne.com cuz I printed some of their posters went to TNT.com and settled here.

Spent Elian Gonzales here. More importantly spent 9-11 here. Learn that “Hugh and series” would have been a plane smashing into the Hancock if Bush hadn’t stopped our flight.
Got to enjoy “A moose bit once my sister.”

Sir, you have offered a service here much like our founding patriots did. Freedom of speech. You are a Patriot on steroids. From the bottom of heart I thank you and appreciate you.

But you are right. We need to introject more respect for are fellow man. Kindness needs to rule.

I’ve been here 11 years for your 2.

This is not new.

Vulgarity and profanity are “things” that are icky but hurt no one really.

I remember that this is just a message board with mods who try to monitor recess. Sometimes, I don’t like when my posts get deleted while other more attacking posts are ignored. Again, it’s just a message board.

Within the past year, there were plenty of times when I opened a good number of threads here, and a good number of them contained profanity.

Same here. It's caused me to hit the abuse button more times in the last year, than I have in my prior ten years of posting here.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m just wondering how long does someone need to be here, until they’re no longer considered a newbie, or not a part of “the club”? Again, I’m not trying to offend you, but I often read posts in which FReepers denigrate other FReepers who haven’t been here an apparently sufficient amount of time to be considered a valid part of the group. You know, kind of like the fifth grade. I’m not saying that’s what you’re doing by mentioning your 11 years, to my 2 years; I’m sure you’re speaking about what you’ve observed during your 11 years, but it just raised those questions in my mind. I, myself, have occasionally questioned a poster’s actual age, when they make a comment that sounds rather sophomoric, knowing that with age, comes (usually) increased wisdom. But there are some, who seem to take the attitude that any perceived challenge to their opinions by a newer FReeper, is an affront by someone who has no right to post a comment, disagreeing to something they’ve posted. Just wondering.

Just ignore people that call you noob———some are obsessed with sign up date.

The only ones I have ever questioned is people who have been here 2/3 weeks and just post threads in order to pimp their blog.

There are no rules on sign up date.

Are we not supposed to post? Is that a rule? Is there a limit?

Back when I was new to FR, there was a bit of a probationary period before you could post unmoderated. That seems to have gone by the way, but it wasn't really harsh to begin with. Maybe two, three days.

I've always been a talker, so I let loose as soon as they took the choke chain off. I stayed respectful and didn't get into spats with anyone, but I sure wasn't shy about sharing my opinions.

I don't think anyone's suggesting you quiet down. The poster may have actually been complimenting you on your output.

I don't think the legal voters of this country gave the House back to the Dems at all. I think they stole it.

"Newbie" is among the top 5 idiotic terms on discussion boards. To imply that someone's tenure on a particular forum has any bearing on his intelligence or wisdom is arrant nonsense.

...how long does someone need to be here, until they’re no longer considered a newbie

Depends on who you're talking to. To the class of '98, nearly everyone else is a newbie, though most of them are too settled into their seniority to ever pull rank on anyone.

I've been here eleven and a half years. I don't feel like that gives me any sort of special status, but I do feel that it means I've earned my place in the community, and that I should be granted just a tad more consideration than someone who only signed up recently.

In my experience, a person sheds the 'newbie' tag as they become known to the regulars. That just takes as long as it takes.

Agreed. It is one of the main reasons why I come back here and pay my dues every year.

Sure, we can be rough in spririt, but we keep it remarkably free of profanity, which I appreciate. I have spent a good part of my adult life trying to refrain from using it excessively, and FR has helped.
