Japan doubted our stomach for war when the hit Pearl Harbor, too. Had the carriers been in the harbor at the time and been destroyed, would the US have sued for peace?

Probably not.

However, if the combat arms were as diverse as they are today we would have surrendered without a shot being fired.

The combat arms that defeated Germany and Japan were ethnically homogeneous, and religiously nearly so.
