Because taking away food from disabled people is genuinely even more lurid than anything I mentioned.

You're not talking about taking food away from disabled people; you're talking about forcing others to GIVE, and not just food, to one-dimensional-characters from your imagination that YOU deem deserving.

Understood. You are fine with letting ALL the disabled starve because you think most of them don’t deserve it

A nonsensical response which, in its entirety (not just in part) not only rejects the concept of God and people who follow God...you assertion rejects the empirical evidence of the effects of Christian charity on society.

What you assert out right cannot be done actually was done in the past.

There is neither thought, reason, nor the most tenuous connection to reality in your debate.

Did you perhaps attend Wellesley? You sound very much like one of their students.

Hey JULIET LINDERMAN - can you show us your pity party clips about great concern for steel workers, coal miners or ANYONE other than democrat government workers...

You keep going back to your narrative like anyone but you and other liberals believe it.

How about discussing what I actually wrote instead of what you WISH I’d written to support your persistent attempts to save face?

Food Stamps are chump change compared to SS Disability fraud.

I have trouble sleeping, here’s your check for Life.

WHAT is your plan if charity donations are not enough without foodstamps? Tell them: “Oh, they didn’t give enough. No food this week guys”?

I’m a volunteer and grower for pantries and we do not have even close to enough to meet demand of everyone who cannot work. The church groups are already at capacity.

If these benefits are cut off in a few weeks, many disabled people will have no food and us volunteers will be tasked to pick up more pieces than we could ever imagine.

It saddens me that so many are cheering about this

And you also have a population that is already taxed to provide for these people. Why should people give more?

Find me stats of people in pre-welfare America starving to death and you'll have a case. Until then, you're talking out of your ass.

In Seattle, all Food Stamp recipients received their February payment before January 20th, which was about 3 weeks early.

Apparently, the Department Agriculture sent the money out early to every state because DAG isn't sure that their finance people will still be working in February.

Ironic - she gets enough aid to stock up on short notice - must really hurt for them to have to actually spend the assistance on food....

She needs to learn some life skills. I learned, my parents were children of the Great Depression.

I raised 3 boys sans child support and Food Stamps on $3.50 and hr to begin with, never earning more than $5.00 after 7 yrs. Worked sick, no real usable health ins. back then. They never went hungry, might not always have like all that Mac N cheese with a hot dog, but if that was what was available that is what you ate. Then we lived in a $65 a month shack, still paid the Utilities, car ins and a used car payment dad had to co-sign for. Didn’t take vacations either. Used rummage sales for clothes. Didn’t have a land line even. Yeah, I’m that old, I’ve got 6 G. Grands.

“And you also have a population that is already taxed to provide for these people. Why should people give more?”

As long as I have something to give while many would suffer without basic needs, it is my moral obligation to give. Today I am a respected professional and business owner. But when I was young, I had no support from family and was practically on the streets many times during slow economies. Volunteers and the church helped me eat. And landlords let me pay late while I worked like a dog and studied at night to improve my condition.

Unfortunately too many people do not feel this way and government saw no choice but to feed the most vulnerable when the poor overcrowded city streets. Prior to industrialization and dense cities, most people grew their own food in large families and disabled/mental were helped by family. This is no longer the situation for countless people who did nothing wrong. They were simply born in a system where they cannot survive on their own.

The only other choice is to face a wave of hungry people lying down on every street begging. We already had that in the early 20th century. Perhaps that will encourage more people to help. But at what cost to the most vulnerable?

I dont give a damn even if stats say most are fakers or “dont deserve it”. They make their own hell and it is on them. My choice is to help nomatter what and let God sort it out in the end...

I dont give a damn even if stats say ...

And THAT is why people like you (and I mean “you” in a very real and personal sense) are rightly DESPISED among the politically literate.

While you metaphorically stand on the street corner, loudly thanking God that you are so much more righteous than the tax collector praying next to you, you want to give HIM the job of taking care of the poor, with his guns and laws, when YOU should be organizing programs to help them if you have such a heart for the disadvantaged.

Hayek warned us in “The Road to Serfdom,” once people like you set up your government programs and mechanisms, you invariably get pushed out by those more ruthless than yourselves who use the same programs designed to take from the rich and give to the poor to take from dissenters and give to supporters.

I KNOW what it is to have to eat for a week off of a bag of rice and a few cans of green beans. I also know Christ taught us to pray “give us THIS DAY our daily bread...,” but you in your faithlessness want to supplant the provedence of God, and to the extent He allows them, God’s people, by FORCING OTHERS to provide for not only the poor, but those the Bible says “should not eat” without distinction (for which you “don’t give a damn!”

You arrogantly assert “there won’t always be enough,” when you have NO IDEA what private charity can or can not accomplish!

Your largesse at the expense of others is worth nothing but contempt. You want to be Mother Theresa, but use the methods of Joseph Stalin!

We already attempted to leave taking care of the poor to “the provenanance of God” for 100+ years during industrialization.

The streets were filled with poor during economic slowdowns and something clearly had to be done besides hoping for the best.

“Your largesse at the expense of others is worth nothing but contempt. You want to be Mother Theresa, but use the methods of Joseph Stalin!”

Oh please. A portion of government funds to prevent the streets from becoming swamped with starving economic rejects is a basic necessity. It is as necessary as government preventing people from dumping waste in the streets.

When we used to leave city sanitation entirely to private individuals we ended up with buckets of feces flowing down the street, piles of trash and polluted water sources everywhere.

Without taxes for enforcement/infrastructure to solve the problem, a few idiots would still be crapping where we eat and leaving trash everywhere. Diseases from sewage and rats would still be spreading like wildfire.

Avoiding taxes at the expense of basic public health is no longer acceptable in civilized society.
