Germany wants speedy end to China-US trade war

German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier told Chinese Vice Premier Liu He on Saturday that he hoped the US-China trade dispute that has slowed global growth would soon be over.

For months, the world’s two largest economies have been locked in a trade war that has cost them billions of dollars and rattled global markets.

The row has also taken its toll on businesses from Germany and other European countries that are operating in China, Altmaier was quoted by state media as saying. The 9-month trade dispute between Beijing and Washington has disrupted supply chains, upset global markets and involved both sides imposing tit-for-tat tariffs on $360 billion (€322 billion) worth of goods.

Ongoing talks, including a meeting between Chinese and US negotiators in Beijing next week, have fueled optimism the two economies will soon reach a deal to put the conflict to bed.

The German minister discussed the conflict with Liu on the sidelines of the second Belt and Road forum in the Chinese capital. Representatives from more than 100 countries were attending the event to discuss Beijing’s plans to build infrastructure projects connecting China with other parts of Asia, Africa and parts of Europe.

In separate comments to reporters on Friday, Altmaier said major European Union countries were keen to sign a deal with China, but as a group rather than individual states. …

Yes, tell the Chinese government to stop raping the U.S.A. on trade. Tariff the hell out of China, and make them suffer. Wean Americans off Chinese goods and make the stuff here.

And surely Germany wants DJT to cave so that China (and Europe) can continue to eat our lunch.

If anything has “slowed global growth”, it’s the sick insistence on holding onto socialistic models. Throw away socialism and growth will happen, as the USA has recently shown.

Fine. I want a speedy end to European socialism and to the Merkel regime.

“Ef the Germans.”

Actually, if we're talking reparations, then how about reparations to the US for WWII. In today's dollars it cost something like $4 trillion. We could use that. I'd let them pay in installments.

As for the French, if they paid us back what we spent in treasure rescuing them, they wouldn't have the money for a socialist state. They can never pay us back with what we spent in lives.

Instead we paid the Germans, via The Marshall Plan.

No wonder the Duchy of Grand Fenwick wanted to go to war with us.

In the list of US concerns, “what Germany wants” should rank somewhere between worrying about what the dogcatcher in Lompoc wants and what the dog he’s chasing wants.

The U.S. just posted a 3.2% first quarter growth rate. What slowed growth?

Maybe your problems lie elsewhere, Herr Altmaier.

The German dude should have told the Chinese, “Hey, you know the US economy is growing even faster and stronger than expected since this “trade war” started, right?

You’re making them bigger and stronger while you are risking an economic implosion. You know that, right?”

The US learned from the Versailles debacle. Driving your defeated enemy into the ground with reparations only generates hatred for the next round.

Besides, we needed a friendly Germany as counter-weight to the USSR.

Germany is the only western nation with a trade surplus with China. China is an insignificant trade partner for us in that we only export 140 billion of our 17 trillion economy to them. They are irrelevant to us from a export perspective and US multinationals there need to move their plants to other nations than providing a benefit to this enemy nation.Personally I hope Trump dumps the entire trade relationship with this nation of tech stealing thieves. Germany can go pound sand

It seems our growth is just fine. Maybe the global parasites should find another host.

“Driving your defeated enemy into the ground with reparations only generates hatred for the next round.”

I agree with this, however, they hate us now - so I'm not sure what we accomplished overall. We not only helped rebuild them after the war, we fought the Cold War (spending a lot more treasure) which allowed them to reunite West and East Germany (and then elected someone who spent a significant amount of time as an East German as their Chancellor).

Germany has no allegiance to us, despite the fact that they make a ton of money selling goods here (e.g., they export ~ $155 billion dollars of vehicles here). We are the third biggest market for Audi; the second biggest market for BMW, and the second biggest market for Mercedes-Benz. Ironically, China is the biggest market for all of them - so of course Germany is going to back China over us - when push comes to shove.

The bottom line is that Germany is for Germany. They are not our allies, in the strictest sense of that term, and if the world started going up in flames we could not depend upon them.

All of that, DESPITE the fact that we treated them extremely well - after all the lives and treasure we lost fighting them, AND that we were the biggest reason they were able to reunify. There are a ton of wonderful people in Germany, but their leadership is not to be trusted.
