In the hours before the attack on the two tankers in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday, the Iranians spotted a US drone flying overhead and launched a surface-to-air missile at the unmanned aircraft, a US official told CNN.
The missile missed the drone and fell into the water, the official said.
Prior to taking fire, the American MQ-9 drone observed Iranian vessels closing in on the tankers, the official added, though the source did not say whether the unmanned aircraft saw the boats conducting an actual attack.

What happens then?
Why did they effectively kidnap at gunpoint one of the crews that had already been rescued and were safely aboard another ship?
Why did they seize two US Navy Patrol Boats back in 2016?
Why did Iran kill over 600 US troops during the Iraq War and continue to do so today?
Why do they constantly poke the bear that could surely kill them in one swift action?
To be clear, Iran does a lot of stupid stuff. This incident doesn't begin to demonstrate their capacity to act in ways that make you scratch your head and wonder what the hell they could be thinking. But the last 5 Presidents have let them get away with it, so maybe they are not so crazy...
In truth, the Mullahs haven’t thought this through. They are just buying time & hoping for the best. There are large sections of Iran that are effectively no-go zones for the Tehran regime. The chief area is the south coast outside the Strait of Hormuz. If they could goad us into striking the naval & missile bases in that area it would be a political bonanza for Tehran. Might buy them another 20 years in power. And yes, we are just stupid enough to oblige them.

From what I understand, many Iranians, especially the younger ones, aren’t too fond of the Mad Mullahs and would be pleased to see the current regime overthrown.
I hope we tread lightly here because there are many Iranians who like Americans and it wouldn’t be smart to turn them against us.
