When I was young, I would travel with buddies and we would share hotel rooms too. Nothing untoward about it.

One of the “teens” has gone to Italy every summer for years as he has family there, and invited the other “teen” to join him... both from affluent families in Marin where neighbor say they were drunken/doped up pains in the arse.
I was up the road in Louisburg college. Coach V was very inspirational. He was a legend to many a youth, we directed summer camp and coach came for an afternoon. Those kids were awed. I don’t know about nowadays but back then carolina basketball was king.

Law enforcement plays by different rules there.
The cop was undercover to catch drug users. He sold the boys fake cocaine and after they used it and found out it was just aspiri,n they came back and stole his bag, which ostensibly contained more drugs or fake drugs, and a fight ensued.
Marin County, one of the only places in the US where people can have everything and want to destroy the way of life they feel too privileged to have.

I was stationed in Germany twice. The first thing we learned was the German Police, Polizei, don’t give a damn about your rights. Likely ditto the Italian police which these two losers are now finding to their great disappointment.
The Italian police are armed.
