Portland residents, business owners want city officials to 'fix' homeless problem

PORTLAND, Ore. – In the summer of 2019, Fox News embarked on an ambitious project to chronicle the toll progressive policies have had on the homeless crisis in four West Coast cities: Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Portland, Ore. In each city, we saw a lack of safety, sanitation and civility. Residents, the homeless and advocates say they've lost faith in their elected officials' ability to solve the issue. Most of the cities have thrown hundreds of millions of dollars at the problem only to watch it get worse. This is what we saw in Portland.

He doesn't know his name and the layers of dirty clothes he's wearing hang awkwardly off his body. Disheveled and scruffy, the man, who looks like he could be in his 60s, spends most of the day shuffling around the city. He walks up to a woman holding a styrofoam to-go box, snatches it from her and throws it on the ground, spilling bits of rice, chicken and peas on the sidewalk. He laughs for a second but his mood quickly turns. He spots a city worker with a broom and shouts the N-word at him before demanding he cleans up the mess.

"He's out of his mind," the worker told Fox News, with a sigh. "Watch. He'll do it again. He does it every 15 minutes."

I believe it was Einstein who said that doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results was a definition of insanity. Continuing to vote for Leftist career politicians is obviously an insane act. Suck it up, Portland!

We don’t really have homeless people here because we don’t spend money on them. We also have about 1,500 foreign students . They find the homeless to be an American anomaly, proof of the corruption of Americanism but they also try to help them which is not welcomed. Bums don’t like it when you tell them to get a job. Eventually, violence ensues.

..."let me take a wild stab in the dark about what is common among these cities..."

The name Democrat conjures up FDR's democrats...I don't think today's Dems bear any resemblance to that DNP....They are instead Progressives bordering on communism is more like it. Most of the DNP identify as (Democratic Socialist). Progressives have been here a long time nibbling away at the US Constitution, those laws and those rights. imho.

Democrats embolden crazy people and criminals. Most cities have a similar distribution of people who will take advantage if they can get away with it...

But in Republican run cities we work at letting those people know we’re not gonna put up with that crap...

Then they move back into their parent’s basement - or they get a low level job and start rejoining their culture. In liberal cities they celebrate the insanity... in Republican cities we tell them to stop the crap.

Why would the city want to do that? They have much more important things to do, such as empowering Antifa and the other Nazis.

If you go and look over the prison systems in most all states...probably a quarter of the population are simply people who would be better suited to sit in a mental asylum or full-time secure facility. Most of the homeless population...fall into the same category.

So the solution to the problem is a massive project of constructing and staffing government-run institutions?

If they would just pay me a $200,000 salary I promise to study the problem.

LIBs were in the forefront of closing the mental "asylums" because it was uncivilized to restrict the mentally ill. Somehow it "took away their freedoms". Actually, the LIBs knew that THEY were lunatics. They feared being involuntarily committed once their lunacy was discovered. It is now obvious to all (except for the lunatic LIBs) that, indeed, they are lunatics...and should be involuntarily committed. How convenient that such institutions no longer exist. LIBs are ALL cray-cray to one degree or another.

They won’t do anything to solve the homeless problem until after the census. Liberals need the homeless as cover for all the numbers they will create in order to steal congressional seats from conservative states.
