The Senate confirmed President Trumps ninth judicial nominee to the liberal 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday, elevating Patrick Bumatay, an openly gay Filipino man, to the federal bench over objections from his liberal home-state senators.
Mr. Bumatay, who has worked as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of California, cleared the Senate by a 53-40 party-line vote.
He did not have support from California Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Kamala D. Harris, who said the White House never consulted with them about the nominee.
Patrick Bumatay lacks the knowledge and experience necessary for the 9th Circuit. He also acknowledged working on the separation of immigrant families while at the Justice Department and refused to answer questions about other controversial issues, said Ms. Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee.
Daniel Goldberg, legal director of the progressive Alliance for Justice, said theres plenty of more qualified Republican lawyers in California the president could have tapped.
He has minimal appellate experience, Mr. Goldberg said of the pick.
But conservative groups cheered Mr. Bumatay, saying he received a Qualified rating from the American Bar Association, a group often touted by Democratic lawmakers.
The reason the Democrats and these left-wing groups think Patrick Bumatay is unqualified is because he is a conservative judicial nominee who happens to be a minority who doesnt fall in line with liberal orthodoxy, said Mike Davis, president of the Article III Project, which backs the presidents judicial nominees.
Mr. Bumatay is the 49th federal appeals court judge appointed by Mr. Trump.
Later this week, the Senate is expected to confirm Lawrence VanDyke, another nominee to the West Coasts 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Not good at all. An anti-Christian pick. He’ll oppose Christianity at every turn, if not now, then more and more as time goes on.
GMTA. I’m guessing these “conservatives” on FR are already mush-brained and trained to accept faggots. I posted a year ago there are homo fag lovers on FR and people think Im crazy...
The “logic” they have is “I dont care what they do in their bedrooms”. If you accept that...then you are OK to slobber yourself on another of the same gender then?
Hypocrites.
This is very good. Another Clarence Thomas
I don’t object to GAY.
I object OPENLY gay part.
Means he’s an activist.
Is kind of hard to categorize this one.
The Tom Homann LGBT Law Association tag in there didn’t help.
The Federalist Society membership since 2003 seems to be diametrically opposed on the surface.
The guy may be well grounded. I have no idea if he is or not.
If he is a letter of the law/Constitution guy...
Whew...
Democrats united against him. That’s a very good sign.
I agree. Homosexuals will support and defend their perversion to the hurt of Christians and heterosexuals.
Denominations that embrace homosexuality and fail to treat homosexual behavior as sinful (Romans 1) - have denied the faith, are reprobate and certainly not Christian.
Simply put, I do not want homosexuals in any government position where their vote can undermine the Christian faith.
Headline if the Parties were reversed, 40 Republican Senators hate Gay Filipinos.
Yes, the democrat party hates gays.
There were Gays at the recent Trump rally in NM with signs that said “We’re gay, not stupid.”
I agree as well.
I don’t see the problem. He’s got a huge background in conservative law theories, he has experience, and he openly worked on the Bush campaign.
What he does in his bed at home means nothing to me and is none of my business. And he pissed the he(( out of the left when POTUS nominated him earlier this year. It’s worth it to make them squirm every time they can and he’s qualified to do that along with the job.

over objections from his liberal home-state senators.
Opinions and epithets like this do nothing for the conservative movement. My neighbors two doors down are a gay couple (don't think they are legally bound) who are probably more conservative than I am.
I’m concerned about it being yet another Yale/Harvard graduate. One takeaway from the Kavanaugh hearings is that we learned that way too many of the judicial elite have inbred academic and social backgrounds, and they’re no different from others in the elite of politics and DC power.
Yes but with Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, those 2 never forgot how the media treated their families...and made their wives cry.
Oh boy!! Big mistake...:(
I don’t give one hoot in hell what people do in the privacy of their own bedrooms, as long as they keep it PRIVATE.
In a judge the ONLY thing I care about is “has he/she read the Constitution of the United States, does he/she Understand the Constitution of the united States, will he/she apply to his/her rulings the common meaning of the Constitution of the United States”.
other than that his/her private life is just that, PRIVATE.
mabuyhay, sigy sigy..... palawan lumpia. (balut Bagio)
