Egypt, France agree to intensify cooperation for political solution to Libyan crisis

CAIRO, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron agreed to intensify cooperation for a political solution to the crisis in Libya, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement on Monday.

During a phone call between the two leaders, al-Sisi highlighted Egypt's support for the Libyan people in achieving security and stability, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

The Egyptian stance "is focused on restoring safety and stability in Libya, supporting anti-terrorism efforts, undermining the activities of armed groups and putting an end to the illegal foreign interference in Libya's domestic affairs," Rady noted.

Egypt is concerned about its 1,200 km western border with Libya where the smuggling of arms and militants has been very active since 2011.

Al-Sisi and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shouky recently held a series of consultations with some of the world leaders including U.S. President Donald Trump, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on ending the conflict in Libya.

Since the ouster and killing of Libya's former leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the North African country has been locked in a civil war that escalated in 2014, splitting power between two rival governments: the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) based in the capital Tripoli and a government in the northeastern city of Tobruk which is allied with the self-proclaimed Libyan National Army (LNA) led by Khalifa Haftar.

Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, France and Russia support Haftar's LNA, while the GNA is backed by Italy and Egypt's regional rivals Turkey and Qatar.

Haftar has been leading a military campaign since early April in and around Tripoli, attempting to take over the city and topple the UN-backed government.

That was scary. Should’ve warned us. Parents don’t let your kids watch this video or they will have nightmares.

"Parents don’t let your kids watch this video or they will have nightmares."

My apologies.
Just a little reminder of what we dodged in 2016. Can you just imagine what a blue wave would've done by now? Now, that's scary!

Turkey is on the GNA side, Egypt leaning toward the eastern Libyan rebels.

Greece also has made noise about being opposed to Turkish expansionism in the eastern Med (there are huge buried gas deposits beneath the sea, which will be the cause of strategic tensions for the rest of the century).

FWIW, the GNA (current official Libya government) appears to be supporting continuous massive "refugee" emigration to southern Europe, hence it's being backed by most of the EUnuchs.

Meanwhile, turkey is relocating all the
rebels from Idlib to Libya.

Officially.

They support the government in Tripoli.

you can bet the west will support whoever is on the other side. They just can’t help themselves.

I’d sure appreciate it if you’d get me a link for that.

I would make my week.

Well given that the UN and Italy (and Turkey) apparently back the Tripoli government (GNA), while the kinda-rebel government in a side city is backed by France and Russia, both major UN members, who knows where anyone will really stand on this one.

” and putting an end to the illegal foreign interference in Libya’s domestic affairs,”

Said without the slightest awareness of the obvious irony.

M. Macron is the Hillary Clinton of France. If he’s trying to “save” Libya, warn the Libyans to head for Morocco ‘til it’s all over.

I trust Egypt on this one. Turkey has no business meddling in Africa and Arabia. Erdogan might think he is Suleman I at one point. Ottoman Empire 2.0 is the last thing the World needs right now.

This destruction of Libya is a true stain on UIS history. Obama destroyed a nation that was protecting US interests , even if Ghadaffis greatest sin was to be in violation of every liberal political correctness meme available. Such violation of Left values is not cause fpr a nationas destruction or its resultant genocide.

The Great Man MAde River project whichi was greening the Libyan desert was destroyed. Obama scorched the earth of Libya for no reason other than to unleash jihadism down throgh Libya into Africa, and to place Egyot, where Obamas Arab Spring failed yet again, on the hooks of long range suffering.

Obama should be strung up and hung for what he did in Libya. It was genocidal war crime by none other than a “Nobel Peace Price “ winner.

Hillary Clinton is a war criminal. And she should be tried at International Criminal Court of The Hague and summarily executed for what she did in Libya.

“Obama scorched the earth of Libya for no reason other than to unleash jihadism”

Arab Spring was all about flipping Governments over to the control of the Muslim Brotherhood, in league with Erdogan in Turkey, and the Emir in Qatar. Trying to take control of Sunni islam, and build a big Empire/Caliphate.

Even if they failed in that big goal, they still planned to get rich rich plundering Government coffers, appropriating National assets and stealing the oil revenues.
