You touch on the one crucial thing that GW Bush never did in response to 9/11: He never destroyed the enemys will to fight. We focused only on degrading their ABILITY to fight, but never tried to eliminate their WILL. Critics of this strategy will say, They are fanatics who can never be deterred, but these Islamists are no more fanatical than were the subjects of the Japanese emperor, and as Ann Coulter has said, Two well-placed nuclear weapons and they became as gentle as little lambs (paraphrase).
If we dont want to be fighting this war against Islam for many generations to come, we must destroy their will to fight. The next time these animals even think of attacking an American anywhere on the planet, our response should be so swift and so devastating that it will shock them into never wanting to tangle with America again. When attacked, our response should be total war, WWII-style with modern weapons, and we should not relent until the Islamic world begs for peace.
Had I been in charge after 9/11, I would have immediately contacted the leader of every Islamic nation known to harbor violent Islamist groups and let them know that they had one week to round up every terrorist in their midst and hand them over to us, or else we would hold those leaders and their countries responsible and would retaliate against them. All of those leaders know who the terrorists are in their countries, so why should we have to go over there and root them out? Just threaten the continued existence of the nations that harbor them.
The next time these animals even think of attacking an American anywhere on the planet, our response should be so swift and so devastating that it will shock them into never wanting to tangle with America again.

I could not agree more. Power and the willingness to use it is the only thing that is respected. Diplomatic efforts are largely a waste of time in some regions of the world and do nothing to bolster credibility or deter aggression.
Agree!
