In the meantime, the embassy should be vacated and all U.S. ties to Iraq severed until there is peace and quiet there for 12 consecutive months.
This wasnt a militia that attacked the U.S. embassy in Baghdad. It was an unruly mob of Iraqis ... and they stormed the embassy after the Iraqi prime minister condemned the recent U.S. air strikes against Shiite militia groups in Iraq.
That’s the way I saw it reported initially. Not sure why things are changing to Iran.
“In the meantime, the embassy should be vacated and all U.S. ties to Iraq severed until there is peace and quiet there for 12 consecutive months. “
We should vacate and never return.
But as long as we are there, we must protect the embassy.
Are you so naive as to believe this is not an Iranian action? OF COURSE we’re holding the original culprit responsible.
It’s the realist point of view.
It was in fact Kata'ib Hizbollah personnel in the Baghdad area, mustered and ordered to duty there, with their well known chain of command on hand leading them. Some of them wore their uniforms (which tend to not be very uniform) while most most were in civilian clothes. That is typical to how they operate, including at the height of combat operations against ISIS - not sticklers for dress. They really all get in uniform just for ceremonies.
They clearly carried their flags with them. This demonstration was a reaction to airstrikes on Kata'ib Hizbollah bases. Pretty much only Kata'ib Hizbollah and their pro-Iranian allies care about that. Most Iraqis are more than happy to see them get blown up.
It wasn’t a “bucketful”.
It was Clinton-holdover, George “Slam-Dunk” Tenent (D).
