Siege at the US embassy: Pro-Iran militia storm Baghdad compound for a second day as Marines fire tear gas and video reveals how bloodthirsty Hezbollah fighter vowed to kill every American inside https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7842299/Siege-embassy-Pro-Iran-militia-storm-Baghdad-compound-second-day.html Weds: Yesterday thousands of demonstrators - many of them members of Iran-backed militia - rushed the heavily fortified Green Zone after US strikes killed 25 members of the Iran-backed Kataeb Hezbollah in air strikes One militant said: 'God willing if this fire reaches inside the embassy, we will not spare a single employee' President Donald Trump's reinforcements were engaged early Wednesday as tear gas was fired to disperse those who had spent the night outside the main gates. Several ambulances arrived to ferry the wounded Yesterday's riot, which included smashing through the embassy's security area, setting fires around the complex and hurling rocks, ended in a camp being set up outside the consulate Some 50 tents, portable bathrooms and cooking pots were shipped in as hundreds of the furious mob prepared a sit-in at the embassy's gates, demanding that the US withdraw from Iraq

There is a "Frontline" you need to watch called "The Secret History of ISIS" on YouTube. It will dispell a lot of this "It's all Obama's fault stuff. Is some of it his fault? YEP. But MOST of it is BUSH/CHENEY who had an opportunity to stop the forerunner of ISIS back in 2002 and didn't - because they wanted an excuse to go into Iraq....and then proceeded to LIE their butts off in front of the UN.

You can actually WATCH Colin Powell lie to the camera on this documentary...saying he can't recall certain things he said to the UN dozens of times. It's embarrassing.

Do yourself a favor...and if you don't come away with a clear understanding that without Bush there never would have been an ISIS - well - all I can say is we didn't watch the same documentary.

Bush kept Iraq “relatively secure” through the brute force of 160,000 US troops. With “contractors” and civilian support, plus a few thousand Brits and other “token” forces, likely over 200,000 total. Thousands of Americans killed, 10’s of thousands wounded and maimed, over 2 Trillion dollars spent. Many, if not most, saw the folly and warned GWB not to occupy Iraq and not to remove the Baathist government. It was never going to be sustainable. He did it anyway. Recognizing history and dealing with current reality are not mutually exclusive. At this point, we have to look at what it is going to take to “save” Iraq. Is it worth a third Iraq war? War with Iran? The long term implications for the region are massive, yet the rest of the world has remained firmly in the “you broke it, you bought it” camp, and our only significant ally, GB, is highly unlikely to return to Iraq. The Saudis and GCC countries should be crapping their pants and mobilizing forces, but they are silent. By all appearances, we are all alone in this.

Trump’s choices are likely just two. He can continue his policy of “getting us out of endless wars” and watch it burn, or he can commit enough troops to stave off this current crisis, and hope it lasts through the election. The latter is most likely, in order to appease both sides and deny the left political talking points. In the political calculus, another war is not an option.

I was talking about a movie where marines, protecting an embassy, fired into an armed crowd of protesters.

Can’t we just “shoot to kill”? Please?

Notice the mongrels never raid the Russian compounds anywhere in the world?

[Moronic. You thinkm
A: That they have no air assets involved.
B: that a full company of Marineinfantry in a defensive position is a sitting duck for the Iraqi army.

Both are laughable.

LOL, go back to gaming.]

The militia that has surrounded the embassy is an arm of the the Prime Minister’s power base. It is possible, even likely, that he will order the Iraqi armed forces into action against the embassy. That means the Marines might have to deal with howitzers, helicopter gunships and F-16 strafing runs and air-to-ground munitions like JDAM’s and Hellfires. In other words, this could be Dien Bien Phu, Arnhem, or, in the best case, Khe Sanh. Except instead of thousands or more soldiers in defensive positions, along with multiple armored and leg infantry divisions available at most dozens of miles away, there are only 100+ Marines. If attacked by the Iraqi armed forces, they will need round the clock, minute-to-minute air coverage.

The Marines aren’t facing the Taliban or even the Iraqi insurgents. It’s potentially the entire Iraqi military and paramilitary gendarmerie. In essence, this could turn out to be a replay of the Iranian Embassy situation in 1979. It might help to hint to the Iraqi PM that he will personally be targeted with a JDAM if things go south, perhaps while he’s having dinner with his family.

Thank you! :-)

Also, President Saddam Hussein was tried and has been hanged; the rape rooms and places where they ground up childrens’ appendages for torture are no longer in use as far as we know. Tons of uranium has been shipped out of Iraq; biological weapons precursors have been dealt with. Some things have improved.

Thank you. Yes, President Bush did a great deal of good, including reminding the rest of the world that the USA can win wars, after Vietnam.

“That means the Marines might have to deal with howitzers, helicopter gunships and F-16 strafing runs and air-to-ground munitions like JDAM’s and Hellfires”

Like I said, go back to gaming. If you think the Iraqi military is going to menace the embassy force with howitzers, gunships, and F-16s strafing and dropping JDAMs, you are delusional.
They barely have the capability to make it to the chowhall.
And what capability they do have will never be turned against our embassy. That would be -instant- death under a swarm of Hornets, F-15s and F-16s with actual skilled pilots, and they are -well- aware of that factoid.

There is not enough military power in all of Iraq to take a fortress manned by 100 Marines.
