The people who color their hair all the bright or pastel colors are mostly anime fans these days, they don’t care if you notice them or not, they just want to look like the characters they watch on television or who are in their video games.
It is the modern equivalent of coonskin caps.
Betting the dress code says hair above the collar so it is too long.
Now, if he declares himself a herself...
It’s not about the diploma, it’s about walking across stage to get it. He can get it mailed to him.
Bet pink and purple hair fall under the “no distraction” hair rules.
He will graduate. He won’t be able to walk across the stage at graduation. He’ll get his diploma mailed to him.
Again, he will graduate and his diploma will be mailed to him. He just can’t walk across the stage to get it unless he conforms to the dress code which he and his mama signed at the beginning of each of the 12 years.
I didnt realize schools still had hair length rules. In my high school days boys hair couldnt touch the top of the ears or shirt collar and girls hair had to at least be long enough to touch the top of the shoulders.
I would tend to veer away from such edicts myself.
The length of someone’s hair does not indicate anything about them other than a style choice.
Reminds me of my youth. Good grief, the things read into hair length in those days.
'Damn white mans' rules don't apply to me.'
A lot of posters are siding with the miscreant. In the next school story they'll question why schools are out of control and teachers and administrators can't or won't deal troublemakers.
For some reason it reminds me of this tune-
“Let it fly in the breeze and get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
A home for fleas a hive to bees, a nest for birds
There ain’t no words for the beauty, the splendor, the wonder of my hair”...
That hair length battle is eternal-there are as many guys out here with long gray/white ponytails as there are guys with shaved heads-with either style, they’re all rednecks and cowboys-freedom of choice, and these are adult men-not kids...
If that school has a dress code that addresses hair length, that is another matter-why is it suddenly an issue-the hair didn’t get that long overnight...
In the next school story they’ll question why schools are out of control and teachers and administrators can’t or won’t deal troublemakers.

Incompetence: The inability to relate cause to effect over time.
I live in a nearby city. Mont Belvieu has been almost exclusively white until just the past few years. Citizens are generally extremely parochial and disdainful of people moving in, regardless of their race. The Barbers Hill school district is very high performing compared to almost all districts in the state.
Their treatment of this young man is outrageous. The district is totally ignorant regarding this matter because they dont know any better.
I am a former US Army Equal Opportunity Staff Officer. I will try to make an appointment with the Superintendent later this week in an attempt to help him/her understand why they need to change their policy. Im white and conservative, so that might help get my point across.
If you say so-as I’m not into Anime I wouldn’t have noticed.
Thanks. You know, you touch on a good point. The kid has had something to this length of hair for some time, and now during graduation he is being penalized.
Good point.
Thank you-I just don’t see why the hair is an issue now if the kid has had the dreadlocks all this time-it just seems arbitrary and unplanned-not a good look for the school at all...
Yeah, I have to agree.
See post 52.
He can keep his dreadlocks! He just has to trim them shorter. The school has had this rule for 30 years. Shame on his mother and the community. This has NOTHING to do with race. If it did, it would be about the dreadlocks, and NOT about the LENGTH of the dreadlocks.
And get lots of tats, too. It'll just scream out, "Hire Me!"
So would you hire him?
