Is Epoch Times a good source?
They’re as I understand it run by a group Falon Gung (sp?) that is persecuted as a sect in China, but they do very good reporting.

That’s a tough one. They are Falun Gong and really have it out for China after the ChiComs captured a few of their reporters. I haven’t seen anything too off-kilter though. They do seem to have sources in China.
Ok, I am sure they are. This virus is particularly hard on those in poor health and the elderly. China is being exposed for what it is. A place where it’s average citizens are starved, in poor health and the government could care the less because communist governments regard their citizens as disposable.
So let’s all panic and crawl into a ball.

I feel bad for the folks there, but we have known all along they were screwed.
It will affect the economy somewhat. It is what it is.
Maybe it will infect their military and set them back a generation.

China is a black box with lying as one of their chief exports. “May you live in interesting times” is an old Chinese curse btw.

I find interesting articles At Epoch Times and bring them here. And I agree I haven’t seen anything out of place I couldn’t bring here....but it is still media so you’ve always got to watch out.
What I worry about is China produces a lot of products and parts for other factories etc. If they stop coming to work & when supply of parts affects manufacturing, factories slow down laying off workers, driving up prices, impacting the economy, even short term just in time for the election could have a huge impact

Well, what began in China is now in 36 nations, this since mid December. Then there is a question of our economy tied tightly to China's supply chain; when that is disrupted so is our economy. We're about to see the effects of globalism and free trade as implemented by liberals, and as of now we haven't a clue where or how it will end.
Many years ago (and some recently), I would do economic research on China.
Can you trust Government statistics. NO. For a few reasons:
1) Everything in china is political, so the degree of lies is directly proportional to how political something is. If something is not highly political (say, amount of sugar produced in a Province, if the info exists, it is probably pretty accurate)
2) The central statisticians, even with the best intentions, are also lied to by those below them. Its the nature of any bureaucrat, but particularly communist ones.
3) Decades ago, they didn’t have the money, structures or systems to keep good records. This of course has improved a lot recently. And when they want to, they keep extremely detailed information
I’m sure Xi Jinping has really great info on a subject he wants info on. Coronavirus is a political bomb. What they will release to their own citizens, much less to foreigners, is a VERY different matter.
Epochs readership has increased substantially since I first began glancing at it and was cautious at that time....however I came to appreciate the writers style of reporting so kept returning.
